I bought this CD after borrowing it from the library. My husband just loved it, so I gave it as a gift. When I went to order it, I was surprised to see so many versions of the last night of the Proms. I can thoroughly recommend this CD as perfectly thrilling. We Canadians have been lucky enough to be at the Proms on several occasions, and can picture us there for a "last night". This CD has made us resolve to do that some year in the future.

This is a live recording and so you also get the speach made by the conductor and all the background noise which is not always welcome.

This "Last Night" CD is missing "Jerusalem and "Rule Britannia". For me the American pieces are unwelcome in the context of the "last Night" and the aforesaid missing items. The otherwise excellent Leonard Slatkin may have had an influence in this just after the 9/11 atrocities. Let's keep Sir Henry happy, not the colonies!
