5.0 out of 5 stars A fictional but very real snapshot 8 Mar 2010
By J. Potter TOP 500 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Format:Paperback
The very first thing we should do is put this in context to other books Andy McNab has written. This is a fictional account that reads as a real journal by a young soldier serving in Afghanistan. It is not a real account of McNab's experiences, nor is it about Nick Stone, his serialised fiction thriller character.

It is very short at just about 100 pages but its impact would probably not be achieved in 500. It is fiction but it reads as being very real, a day in the life of a young soldier and the three others he spends his days with. It is about who they are and why they are there, what is important to them and what they are fighting for.

It's absolute strength is in these characters and their story. It is well written, engaging and very powerful. Only a brief look at the news will reveal the everyday correlations. This book will take a few hours of your time to read, it is the sort of story that stays with you for a very long time. I cannot recommend it highly enough.

5.0 out of 5 stars A good short novel 8 Mar 2010
By Empe
Format:Paperback
A young soldier and his Rifles' mates in Afghanistan. War, dust, fear, tears under a very hot sun, well mixed in a short "delicious" book at a bargain price. Short but more interesting of many too long, boring war accounts. If You liked "ordinary" war stories don't lose it

4.0 out of 5 stars Simple enjoyable read 17 Sep 2010
Format:Kindle Edition
I enjoyed the book, although it wasn't clear whether the story was fiction or non-fiction and was infact written in such a way that you might assume it was non-fiction.

Its only short although it is only 66p, if you like McNabs stuff and have an interest in the military then you'll enjoy this short book!
