classic tales and fresh new perspectives, 22 Oct 2010
By Dog "Soldier" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: The Last Man Anthology (Paperback)
"The anthology seamlessly interweaves classic tales and fresh new perspectives, page-turning prose and heart-tugging poetry, creating a haunting portrait of an all-too-possible (and not-too-distant) future.
"Within these pages we see a Wellsian view of alien invasion through the innocent eyes of a child and are forced to ponder the paradoxes and perils of time travel and panspermia.
"Page after page the reader finds themselves increasingly faced with the precariousness of our own existence, a philosophical exercise of vital importance in an age which has brought us to the brink of nuclear war as well as to impending shortages of natural resources and environmental devastation."
~Dr. Kristine Larsen, Professor of Physics and Astronomy, Central Connecticut State University.
The Last Man Anthology: Tales of Catastrophe, DIsaster, and Woe
"There is a dazzling smorgasbord of fiction and poetry here: classic stories about pandemics that kill off whole communities, as well as old and new stories about global warfare, alien conquests and natural disasters. The combination of pieces from different eras is inspired, and sets up a ghostly discussion where writers from the Golden Age of sci-fi speak to 21st-century writers haunted by 9-11 and global warming. This book is exhilarating to read."
~Jean Roberta, English Professor, University of Regina, Canada.
"The Last Man Anthology is brilliance at its best from some of the great authors of our time. From the first moment you open the book until the last tale, you will be whisked away on a dark and dreary journey of catastrophic events, from the alien encounter to nuclear warfare to pretty much the last man standing. Each story is a road map of one possible future for mankind and should be viewed with an open mind--the future is about to start."
~Shelby Patrick, author of The Fear Within
"When I first picked up the Last Man Anthology, I have to admit I had no real idea what to expect. I'd never read Mary Shelley, only had a vague idea of the storyline behind Frankenstein and no knowledge whatsoever of The Last Man. When I finished, I felt like I knew the apocalypse in and out, I felt changed, and was left quietly reflecting on how I felt about humanity and the struggle to survive, about loneliness and how the machinations of the human race might fare after we are gone.
"This anthology gripped me, kept me reading late into the night and left its own marks on me afterward. There are some great stories in The Last Man anthology, and not just the ones that are written by established authors--in this anthology, Liguore has assembled a crop of new writers so damn good one could almost cry at their talent. This hauntingly beautiful collection of tales is a definite must-read. No question about that. A solid five out of five stars."
~E. S. Wynn, author of Pink Carbide

Great book horrible kindle edition, 12 Dec 2011
By Suzanne Hartwick - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Last Man Anthology (Kindle Edition)
While I give the book itself high marks, the lack of effort put into making the kindle edition marginably readably is astounding! Long portions of text are rendered with no space betwee them and the clip art that may have originally been decorative, by its size and ramdom placement, become an impediment to readng.
Publisher, please fix!!!
