Product Description

Product Description

"A grand and glorious visionary epic."-Robert Silverberg *** Set in the artificial planetary system of Chalco-Doror, which is no more and no less than a vast cosmic machine, The Last Legends of Earth is a love story, a gripping saga of struggle against alien control, and an examination of the machinery of creation and destruction. Above all, it is world-building of the highest and grandest order, on a scale rarely seen in science fiction since the great works of Olaf Stapledon. --This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.

read this book! 23 Jan 2007
Format:Paperback
This is one of my favourite all time SF books and I'd recommend it to anybody.

It all takes place billions of years into our future, when humans are brought back to life to serve as bait for horrific vampire-like spiders called Zotl. The story follows the human's reannimator Gai, a god like being who has created worlds for us to populate. It also follows the lives of some of those humans over thousands of years of real time, while events for Gai fly past in a matter of days.

I have read very few books that manage to convey the sense of time that Attanasio cojures up in this story; as he follows the humans' first desperate battles for survival, through the centuries of opulence and into final decay.

If you like SF, then buy this book.

Absolutely brilliant! 28 Aug 2003
By Krispi
Format:Paperback
I read this book about 5 years ago and have been trying to find it again to re-read ever since. It was the best sci-fi/fantasy book i have ever read! It looked a bit daunting at first as the book was so thick, but it didn't take long to get into the story. I did find the storyline got really complicated at times, hence why i want to read it again. Definitely worth the effort though!

This book is one of the most compelling I have read, once you start there is no stopping. The concept is staggering. Reading it once is good reading it 3 times and it just gets better. Get a copy if you can.
