Book Description

Bestselling author and foster carer Casey Watson tells the heartbreaking true story of a teenage mother and baby in need of a safe and loving home.

At fourteen, Emma is just a child herself – and one who’s never been properly mothered. She has been in foster care several times already and when she discovered she was pregnant, and refused to have an abortion, her mother threw her out of the house.

Casey and her family instantly form a strong bond with Emma’s baby Roman, but dealing with Emma’s behaviour and constant lack of responsibility is a far tougher challenge. And before long Casey finds she’s doing something she never thought she would – covering up for Emma’s shortcomings as she allows her personal involvement to colour her judgement.

But the more Casey gets to know Emma the more she’s convinced that with the right help and guidance this lonely and unsupported girl can become a good mother to her gorgeous little boy. That’s what makes it even harder when Casey and her family have to make a stark choice: to hold on to Emma or look after Roman; to help a teenage girl desperate to turn her life around, or offer an innocent baby a safe home and much-needed good start in life.

About the Author

Casey Watson is a specialist foster carer. She has been working in this field for six years after giving up her position as a behaviour manager for a local school. During this time she has welcomed 14 difficult to place children into her home.

As a specialist foster carer she works with profoundly damaged children, seeing each child through a specific behavioural modification programme, at the end of which they will hopefully be in the position to be returned either back to their family or into mainstream foster care.

Casey combines fostering with writing, usually late at night when the rest of the family is sleeping.

Casey is married with two grown-up children and three grandchildren.

The name Casey Watson is a pseudonym.

5.0 out of 5 stars Heart-Breaking Story 26 Oct. 2013
By ACB(swansea) TOP 50 REVIEWER
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Foster carer Casey Watson and husband Mike take on another complicated placement. Never having had a mother and baby before and without specialist training, Casey accepts a 14 year old mother, Emma, and her 3 week old son, Roman. Emma's background is appalling. She has been in and out of care for years as her mother has alcohol and drug dependency compounded by depression. Deprived of a normal childhood, Emma is thrown out of her house by her mother when she discovers she is pregnant. To make matters worse, Roman's 19 year old father, Tarim, is in prison for drug dealing.

Casey knows the baby will be a physical challenge but is not expecting the multiple problems that lead to severe complications from mother Emma who has a child-like vulnerability despite being in an adult environment. Both need mothering. Emma is rebellious with attitude and behavioural swings. Casey realises that if Emma cannot demonstrate her ability to look after Roman he will be taken from her by the social workers or 'kiddy snatchers out to spy on her', as resentful Emma describes them and in even more colourful terms.

Casey is well-supported by her own family but has her work cut out with the roller-coaster antics of Emma who puts her and Ronan's future in jeopardy. Casey never gives up hope nor concedes defeat even under severe duress. She has to make heart-rending decisions on a personal level to try and stabilise the difficulties she faces. The story is one of intense emotion and heart-breaking events that will affect the reader along with the suspense of the outcome described in graphic detail,

Casey Watson again demonstrates the tremendous effort both emotional and physical, to provide the support and devotion to the severely disturbed children she takes responsibility for. All foster parents deserve the highest praise. This is another exceptionally written true story by the author. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars another excellent read 8 Nov. 2013

Casey Watson has a unique ability to write about the very troubled children she works with-she shows tremendous empathy and passion for her her work and yet at the same time she manages to remain 'human'! By this I mean she writes about the things that go wrong, the 'mistakes' she makes as well as the amazing successes. As someone who also works with very challenging children, I know all too well that there are small steps forward and many frustrating backward steps too! The rewards though are in making a real difference to the future for the child-and Casey achieves this spectacularly!

Yet again another fantastic book from casey watson! Casey has a style of writing which draws you in and makes you feel you are apart of the story! With being a true story at times you can find yourself becoming frustrated at certain situations! At times the book had me in tears (not in a bad way) you're just able to sympathise! The book also has a fantastic ending (que more tears!) Have read all of Casey's books! She is one amazing lady! Very inspirational! She seems to have an amazing family which all do their bit to help/support casey and children! I look forward to Casey's new releases and usually pre order! Well done Casey!! xx

4.0 out of 5 stars Weak ending 17 Nov. 2013

Very disappointed with the very quick ending. Seemed as if there was a lot more story to go, but run out of paper. This is why I'm giving the book a four star and not a five. Sorry!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant 30 Oct. 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
What a beautiful book and excellently executed . Casey and her family are the rarest of people who gives and shares there lives to such troubled children . The book itself is an excellent read and one I couldn't put down , the story of a young girl and her baby's fight to be what everyone else takes for granted and that is to be a normal functional family.

Casey's books are always a good Read and this one is no exception. I wait for her to release another and buy it as soon as I see it. It takes a special kind of person to foster in the way Casey does with more challenging kids and as long as she keeps writing about hers and.Mike's experiences I will be waiting to read them. A special family and an amazing author.
