5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding - the best of its type 23 Sep 2007
Format:DVD
I have been waiting for nearly a decade to see this film released on DVD.

This is an old school Kung Fu film, with a huge variety of well choreographed fight scenes demonstrating some breath taking prowess with unusual weapons and situations. BUT, it is so much more than a series of fights. The basic plot is simple: 2 warriors meet, battle and become friends, joining forces to take on the might of the local warlord.

Unlike many other films of the genre, the audience can empathise with the characters, who are well acted. The script has just the right amount of humour and features the essential ingredients of love, honour and betrayal portrayed in a way that avoids cliche and develops the characters so the audience cares about them. If you only own one Kung Fu film from the 70's, this should be it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Superb! 11 Mar 2008

Format:DVD
Martial arts classic from John Woo. Great characters, amusing scenarios and some of the best fight choreography ever. The sabre battle between Wei Pai and Fung Hak On is legendary.
