This book, and the concluding 'Mists of Everness', follow several initially unrelated characters in the modern-day Eastern US as they battle to understand the true nature of the world and stop its demise at the hands of the Dark Angel Morningstar.
Wright has obviously researched his subject matter deeply, as like his 'Chaos' trilogy it contains characters from greek, roman, celtic and norse mythology, as well as borrowing intelligently from medieval angelology and A Midsummer Night's Dream.
The premise of a parallel 'dream world' is beautifully realised with some excellent descriptive prose, certainly not yet another dumb fantasy novel. My only minor gripe is the ending, which is a bit weak, especially when considered against the page-turning qualities of the rest of the book. Apart from that, loved every bit of it.
One of the few books I've read that where the world around me disappears completely (try China Mieville's Perdido Street Station for a similar feeling).
