Synopsis
Seven very different soldiers find themselves separated from an Allied invasion in WWII Holland in order to find a horde of Nazi gold. In part inspired by the World War II action films KELLY’S HEROES and A BRIDGE TOO FAR--the latter of which was also set during the bungled Operation Market Garden--this tense British wartime heist adventure stars Michael Madsen in a notable cameo as an American colonel, Billy Zane as a Canadian pilot and a host of actors familiar to British television viewers, such as Jack Dee, Anton Rodgers and former Tottenham Hotspur footballer David Ginola. The script from Colin Teague (who also directed) and Gary Young (the duo behind the gangster comedy SPIVS) manages to link a number of plot strands together to create a notable World War II film.

3.0 out of 5 stars A BRIDGE TO FAR - FETCHED, 22 Dec 2006
By Mr. G. Allen (Essex England) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This truely is a low budget war film. The computer generated aircraft were the strangest bunch of planes to fly in ww2.This is part A Bridge to Far and Kelly's Heroes, where this time it is the Germans trying to recapture stolen art and booty from other Germans.I have seen David Ginola in better acting roles in his player days at Spurs. The plot is lame and so are the acting performances. Not a patch on the two films already mentioned.

3.0 out of 5 stars not your typical war movie, 16 Aug 2007

When you think WW2 movie one generally thinks story about honour and valour on the battle field but 'The last drop' doesn't really touch on that. It's like a mix of Oceans 11 and The Dirty Dozen.
A British team is thrown together at the last minute to break away from their comrades liberating Holland and carry out a top secret mission. They are a mish-mash of men who don't understand why they have been thrown together - all except for 2 - until things come to a head. It eventually comes to light that they are to 'secure' and 'divert' stolen artwork etc to British soil so the Nazi's don't get their hands on it.
However, not only are the Nazi SS on their way to claim the goods for Hitler but so are a couple of breakaway German soldiers, a book-keeper and the Americans (who all want it for themselves)!
It all culminates in a bit of drama but nothing worth writing home about. I didn't find it very gripping at all. In fact it was, like Oceans 11, a little humourus (though this may be unintentional!).

5.0 out of 5 stars The Last Drop, 16 Jul 2006
Great film... I'm amazed it went straight to DVD! If you like the 'war movie thing' this one will be for you. I had the privilege of watching it with my teenage family at a preview showing in London, we all enjoyed it tremendously...

There are some great charactures in the film... Michael Madsen has a good 'tongue in cheek' role which made my smile. David Ginola was suprisingly convincing as the 'sniper'. Neil Newbon was class... and you get to know and like the rest of the team as the film plays through... It's a great 'old style' war film with modern humour, effects and style...(good story line too with a few suprises along the way...

I would have no hestitation of recommending this film...
Oh! apparently that Billy Zane is worth a watch!!
