This is a wonderful book! The characters are colourful and endearing and the book is very well written. It had me giggling non - stop and the twists and turns were delightful. But most of all this is a well thought out story with an intricate and clever plot. It's the kind of book you can't read just once!

This was the first novel by James Blaylock that I ever read and remains the most fantastical and complelling of them all. I only wish he would leave-off the ghost stories for a while and revisit the pure fantasy scene similar to The Last Coin / The Paper Grail - come on Mr Blaylock I want more!

An excellent read 13 Feb 1999

Format:Paperback
I read this novel along with Winter Tides and All the Bells on Earth, and this novel far surpasses the others. Blaylock's sense of humor is at its best here, making this one of the most unique novels I've read.

Well written, whimsical, magic realism
I found this book delightful. The characters were engagingly odd and the plot definitely original. Humorous and a bit creepy by turns. The best Blaylock novel I've read so far. Read more
