More About the Author

Alex Gutteridge is the author of 10 children's books. Her work includes humorous young fiction, stories for reluctant readers and YA novels. Her book Oven Chips for Tea was broadcast on the radio and her novel, Last Chance Angel, was short-listed for five awards; the Essex Book Awards, the Hull Book Awards, the Lincolnshire Book Awards, the Lancashire Book Awards and the Romantic Novelists' Book Awards in the young adult category. Her latest YA novel, No Going Back, was published by Templar on 1st July.

Alex was born and brought up in Leicestershire. An only child she spent a lot of time making up stories inside her head and sometimes getting into trouble for that! She dreamed of doing all sorts of things when she grew up, a teacher, an artist, a journalist, but she never thought it would be possible to be a children's writer. It was only when her daughter was small that she thought to herself 'if I'm going to have a go at writing that book which has been lurking at the back of my mind for years, then I should start now'. So she did. Her first book, Ghost Riders, was based on an old Leicestershire legend about a highwayman and his wife.

Under the pen name of Lucy Cooper, Alex has also written a romantic novel for adults. Every Cloud... is available on kindle.

Alex is married with three grown-up children and a cat called Lily. One day she would like to get a dog and to keep chickens, (Lily wouldn't like either of these ideas!). She likes baking and eating cake, walks in the countryside, exploring new places and, of course, reading.

Alex blogs every week about writing as well as all sorts of other things at alex-gutteridge.blogspot.co.uk
You can also find her on Facebook and Twitter.

3.0 out of 5 stars 3.5 Stars 30 July 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
This was a really sweet story. Aimed at the slightly younger teens I think (it reminded me in terms of feel and tone to Eight Keys by Suzanne LeFleur) it is an accessible story with a great message.

I liked the main character in this - Jess really goes through a transformation - and thought the angel Darren was a brilliant addition (loved his scenes!) - it help to keep the story light and fun. What I enjoyed most about the story though, were the interactions with her family - especially her brother Jamie - and how she did learn a lot about herself and what is important.

There were a few places where the pace slowed a bit and I found myself not quite as absorbed in the story as I was but it soon picked up again and I found myself steaming ahead. I'm definitely interested to see what this author writes next.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really, really, really, really good! 31 Dec 2013
Format:Paperback
This was definitely one of the most amazing books I've ever read! I'm 11 years old and I love to read, but I kind of fell behind with reading for a few months. This was the book that got be back into reading and I loved it! It has a really good story line and I'm so glad I picked it up at the airport. I really hope she will write another pre-teen/teen book. Thank you, Alex!
