5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant, 10 Sep 2007
A team are sent to try and find colleagues who they've lost contact with. Unfortunately their plane is damaged when they land and the base camp is found destroyed and all persons dead. By the time the plane is fixed its become too dark to take off so they settle for the night. Various mishaps occur during the night and next day and we're left only with Robert (Massimo Foschi) and Rolf (Ivan Rassimov) who become lost in the jungle. When they too become separated the story then follows Robert who after eating some mushrooms passes out only to awaken to the sight of the locals and is taken prisoner.

Firstly, I have to say that there are some people out there who accuse this film of being racist. To them I say SHUT THE HELL UP YOU IDIOTS! So what if the natives turn out to be cruel, sadistic cannibals, it's only a film. What do you want? The locals to help fix the plane then exchange pleasantries with each other before all going off into the sunset. It would be boring that way. Anyway, back to the film, Ruggero Deodato's first cannibal entry is outstanding in almost every way. There's a good story, decent score and it's thoroughly entertaining. Deodato's camera is rarely still as it glides and zooms through the jungle and the film gets going right from the start. What I do object to though is the animal cruelty on show. As all fans of the genre know most cannibal films contain such scenes but I find them completely unnecessary and they ruin the films. This film is almost as good as the classic "Cannibal Holocaust" though in "Jungle" you find yourselves rooting for the characters, you really want Robert and best buddy Rolf to make it and get back home.
This excellent film is highly recommended to all.

4.0 out of 5 stars jungle holocaust, 29 April 2006
This review is from: Last Cannibal World [DVD] [1979] (DVD)
Directed by Ruggero Deodato(CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST) this is one of the best cannibal movies. The story is about an oil prospector who lands in the malaysian jungle only to get captured by a tribe of cannibals.
The film is prsented in a letterboxed widescreen ratio (2.35:1) and the picture quality and sound is good.
The extrass include:
Trailer,
Ruggero Deodato biography and filmography,
Image gallery,
Reviews and Prodution Notes
The film has been cut by the BBFC.Who removed two scenes(a crocodile geting killed and a rape scene) but surprisingly left in most of the animal cruelty(a snake swallowing a lizard and then a bat and a snake getting its head smashed by a cannibal)
This is one of the better, gorier cannibal movies and is definitely worth seeing!

Last Cannibal World

This is the supposed true account of Robert Harper and as I move on my scepticism grows of its remaining factual origins. As it began I was unsure how far in I would get into the film without my teeth grinding to stub and nerve. Alas I gave it its airing and it was hilarious, sadly I'm not sue that was the point.

A badly dubbed (on edit, not language) nature film very quickly turns into a Planet of the Apes-esque romp with tribes people behaving like cartoon stereotypes in awe and confusion of the westerner. This seems to be Harper's wet dream S & M fantasy not so much a tale of survival.

Robert Harper is lost in the jungle and is repeated beaten or masturbated by the tribes people before its decided he could work as bait. A local takes fancy to Harper and decides to run away with him. We then get a strange cut away to a non related tribes woman giving birth and throwing the spawn to a passing crocodile. The relevance of this scene is lost.

Anyway despite being a local the girl does not seem to know her way around the island and runs round in circles till the film fabled cannibals give chase. Tribe girl seemingly dropped as child is caught somehow and in the only gore of the film is eaten by her people (oddly to the soundtrack of a wartime public information film). While his new beau was being eaten Harper manages to make good his escape apart from he doesn't and the mob having had time to prepare and eat his missus catch up in seconds.

Harper must have seen Indiana Jones or something as he opts to battle boss cannibal and wins out somehow. Caught up in the moment he decides to eat boss cannibals liver??? before noticing his plane was behind him all along and making good his escape.

Remember though... This is all true... Enjoy.
