Product Description

We Brits love our sauce, whether it's what we lash on our food, read on our seaside postcards, or write in our stories. Come and enjoy a buffet of tasty LGBTQ treats!

From marriages to reunions, via practical jokes and football matches, to weresloths and possibly the oddest Tarts and Vicars party in the world, join us as we celebrate the UK Meet in the best way we know: telling the story.

As a follow-up to the critically acclaimed British Flash and Tea and Crumpet anthologies, our talented writers bring you sixteen stories about gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and genderqueer characters enjoying what Britain and mainland Europe have to offer, with their wonderfully diverse range of cultures and landscapes and some incredibly colourful and quirky people.

Contributors include: Tam Ames, Becky Black, Anne Brooke, Charlie Cochrane, Rebecca Cohen, Lillian Francis, Elin Gregory, Clare London, Sandra Lindsey, JL Merrow, Emily Moreton, Josephine Myles, Zahra Owens, Jordan Castillo Price, Elyan Smith and Robbie Whyte. Edited by: UK MAT (UK Meet Acquisitions Team: Alex Beecroft, Charlie Cochrane, Clare London, JL Merrow and Josephine Myles).

This anthology is a souvenir of the 2012 UK Meet, an occasion for GLBTQ supporters to get together in a relaxed setting to celebrate and chat about the fiction community they love. Funds from the sale of this anthology will go towards future UK Meets, to which all are welcome. Please visit the website for details, or contact UK MAT through the publisher.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Saucy! 6 Aug 2012

A very diverse collection of stories, but there wasn't one I didn't enjoy. I often find short stories frustrating, sometimes they feel too short, or too rushed, trying to cram in too much. These stories were just right.

Lashings of Sauce is an anthology that is truly a celebration of LGBT fiction and all its diversity, with sixteen equally fantastic short stories that run the gamut from lighthearted to erotic to poignant, as each author places his or her own personal and memorable stamp on this collection, giving me something to love about every story, whether it was the characters who made me laugh or those who touched my heart as they struggled to find an identity in a world where pronouns and Self are sometimes at conflict with one another.

Some of these authors are new to me, some are reliable favorites, but whichever the case they all delivered in a big way. It would take forever for me to list, story by story, what drew me into the lives of each of these characters, but suffice to say there's something for everyone, whether you're a fan of historical, paranormal, or contemporary fiction, and regardless of how you identify.

There are stories of new love, lost love, and renewal; stories of temptation and unrequited love; stories of healing and hope; stories that made me laugh out loud, smile, sigh, brought a lump to my throat, and a few of them were just flat-out, unapologetically sexy. Whatever the case, whatever the conflict, whatever the course, each of the characters found the way to the beginning of their happy ending. These are stories of loving unconditionally and finding the perfect someone who makes you feel perfect in yourself, discovering a common bond that makes you feel an uncommon joy.

I read this book, expecting with each story that I couldn't possibly love the next as much as the previous. This is one time I can say I'm so glad I was wrong.

The best collection of erotica I have ever read, from the deeply sensual to the comic (no, really - were-sloths???) and with sensitive treatment of such delicate subjects as how it feels to be trans-gender. Prudes please abstain but anyone who loves a good read and is broad minded - grab it now!
4.0 out of 5 stars Mixed bag of stories, but a lot of very good ones 23 Aug 2012

I RECEIVED THIS ANTHOLOGY AS FREE REVIEWING COPY.

As blurb tells you this anthology was written for 2012 UK Meet of GLBT writers and readers. I respect that this was probably a labor of love, but even thinking about the review turned out to be a problem for me. I usually do expect the anthology to be a mixed bag of stories, IMO it is normal. I only read one anthology where all stories were equally amazing to me and I have read quite a few of them. But because of mixed quality I almost gave up on the anthologies and would much rather pay a little more for one or two short stories which I know are amazing. There was one problem I have had with most of the stories though - too short for me and the most I can think of them were tasty appetizers - the action stopped when I finally felt engaged in it.

Let me tell you about the stories which I loved. I did not hate the rest and I think regardless for such good cause it is very worth the price, I just did not find them to be memorable.

"Post mortem" by Jordan Castillo Price was one of the funniest and unusual suggestions of how to make your crush pay attention to you. I wonder if I would ever be able to do something like that and the answer is probably never :)

Et Tu, fishies? by JL Merrow - definitely one of the funniest and, I am not sure if this is the right expression to describe what I think of that story, but I would say that this story concentrated on special turning point in our characters' lives, when they are finally forced to acknowledge that they both want to turn from friends to lovers. I really really loved it.

"Zones" by Ellian Smith was my favorite f/f story in this anthology, just soo much raw emotion. I have to say here that other f/f stories in this one just did not touch my heart at all unfortunately :(

"A few days away" by Elin Gregory. I keep going back and forth and wondering whether this one was my favourite story in the whole anthology or is this a toss up with another story. Find out what happens when established couple goes on vacation. I just felt that the writer managed to make the best use out of short page space and tell me so very much about the characters.

"Lost in London" by Tam Ames was also very funny, but with bite if that makes sense. Will Zombies get you or not? :) (No, there are no Zombies in this one in case you are wondering, but not saying anything more ;)

Dragon Dance by Josephine Myles - adored this one, absolutely adored and settings played significant role in that (characters too of course)
