I must admit when I saw the very first episode of Larkrise it was with some trepidation, after all the bookLark Rise to Candleford: "Lark Rise"; "Over to Candleford"; "Candleford Green": A Trilogy
is a non-fictional biography/social history. I just thought that it wouldn't work, but within minutes I was proved wrong. With absolutely inspired script writing, acting and choice of cast this great series started off brilliantly, and carried on to soundly entertain. I was hooked and have watched every episode, and now with this collection you can get the first two seasons, and as I write this tonight I know the BBC are starting to show the third season. This has become addictive viewing with me, and I know that it also has for my mother.
There is nothing really to complain about this, it is just the thing to snuggle up with on an evening and sit back and enjoy. Perhaps the second season got bogged down a bit with Dorcas' realtionship, but this was more than compensated for by the arrival of Minnie (fantastically played by Ruby Bentall). If you like good productions with some comedy, and no swearing or nudity then this will be ideal. I don't mind swearing and nudity, and I am adicted, so this really is great for a mass of different people, as great things always are.
This takes me back to nineteenth century literature, where you know ultimately everything always comes out right in the end, and I love those books so this is great fun.
