Product Description

As the residents of Lark Rise and Candleford return in this warm-hearted series, could the fortunes of the Timmins family be about to change? A journalist named Daniel arrives to deliver the news that Emma has been left some money. There's a substantial sum to be claimed if Emma can prove her right to the money and there's a rags to riches story in it for Daniel's newspaper. As Robert and Emma contemplate their change in fortunes, Laura, who is fascinated to meet a real writer, shows Daniel around Lark Rise. Elsewhere, the Pratt sisters are keeping secrets from one another; Margaret confides in Dorcas that she and Thomas are trying for a baby, and Minnie - in her attempt to live by Dorcas's advice of always telling the truth - ends up offending almost everyone who comes to the post office. Set at the end of the 19th century, this gentle, tender and visually stunning drama series has already sold to more than fifteen territories and remains a critics' favourite.

Product Description

Adaptation of Flora Thompson's memoir of her Oxfordshire childhood, set in the small hamlet of Lark Rise and the wealthier neighbouring market town, Candleford, at the end of the 19th Century

5.0 out of 5 stars It has subtitles! 29 Oct 2010

Just want everyone to know that these dvd's have English subtitles. I do not understand why Amazon doesn't inform this. Surely, an information like this will improve the sales?

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved it! 21 May 2010
In changing times, Lark Rise and Candleford folk face the challenges of the new world that is looming ever so near. I have read some of the other reviews about this series who found it disappointing, but I thoroughly enjoyed this third series, because it gave room for the characters to grow and it was a lovely ending for all the characters we have come to know and love.

3.0 out of 5 stars Still Lark Rise to Candleford, but.... 4 Nov 2010
I honestly don't understand why everybody seems to think that this is as good as the first, or even the second season. First I have to say that I really enjoyed some of the episodes. But most of them were just plain disappointing and even a bit ridiculous (Dorcas Lane, the coolest woman ever, standing in the backyard of the hotel crying like a little girl in front of a stranger because he doesn't want to interact with the world??!?!). Dorcas Lane is a lot weaker and I think thats what bothered me most. I've also seen enough petty little fights between Robert and Emma. And strangers coming to town, disrupting the community. And Twister getting all weird in the head. And Thomas freaking out. And does it ever rain in Lark Rise, unless it's part of the story? I still enjoyed it cause I plain LOVED the first series and still love the characters and the setting. But it more and more reminds me of a soap in costumes. Where are the subtleties, the quirkiness the uniqueness of the first season? And I'm especially missing the wisdom. The characters have started to act like the Hollywood versions of them would do. I already wasn't too fond of the second season (James Dowland wasn't my kind of guy) but it still had great episodes and believable plots. But the third was truly disappointing. But still - I can't wait for the fourth!

5.0 out of 5 stars A superb Third series! 4 May 2010
I had previously watched Series 1 and 2 and whilst those were also very good this one is also very good and gets my 5 stars! I hope that Series 4 will be commissioned later on this year. This is something that the BBC are great at doing. I hope that they'll continue doing so.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thoroughly enjoyable 11 Mar 2010
By San Diego surfer VINE VOICE
This is on television at the moment, at 8pm on Sundays, and it makes for a thoroughly enjoyable hour every Sunday evening. It is light and everything (nearly always) ends happily but sometimes that is just what I need. I have enjoyed this series more than the others, it is humorous and funny, especially with Minnie the maid, who is delightfully silly! Daniel Parrish as the handsome young journalist is a good addition to the story. I wonder if Laura will ever settle down to marry. Altogether this is a sweet series and one which I highly recommend!

This is such a gentle series full of warmth and good advice, (although Dorcas Lane does start to mildly irritate with her patronising and simpering look after the 3rd series). Read more
