Having thoroughly enjoyed the first three series, I was looking forward to series 4, and I wasn't disappointed. There were the same gentle, but slightly quirky, story lines, further development of the characters and the same high production values. It's a shame that the Brendan Coyle character, Robert Timmins, was not included but presumably he was busy in Downton Abbey. And it's also a shame that more wasn't made of the Dawn French character, Caroline Arless, though she does re-appear in series 4 to good effect.
Since series 5 was cancelled, seemingly at short notice, I was worried that series 4 might end with certain storylines left hanging. However my worries were unfounded; series 4 ends on a good note and it is not dependent on whether or not series 5 appears.
An excellent series.
