Nice book, but was damaged in places,
We have had a lot of bibles from this site and most always are excellent.

Great for reading 10 April 2014

Format: Imitation Leather
Cover and Binding
Not all imitation leather covers are of the same quality. Other imitation leathers have a cheap look and feel, but Crossway’s TruTone is one of the best imitation leather’s that I’ve seen. It feels durable and elegant. It is not floppy. I prefer this because it’s easier to hold in one hand. If you’re looking for a floppy cover then TruTone is not what you’re looking for. I prefer it to bonded leather and I even like it better than some genuine leathers that I’ve seen. It is perimeter stitched and the lining looks like vinyl. I love the mahogany color. The spine is embossed without any foil, which I love the look of.

This one has a sewn binding. It has a little trouble lying flat in Genesis. It will break in over time. One thing I am concerned about it how long the binding will last.

Paper and Print
The paper is nice but it does have show-through in the poetry sections. This is not noticeable in the other books because of the line-matching. It’s distracting but only in the poetry sections.

The font is where this Bible shines. It is 12-point and it looks like a 13-point leading. There is plenty enough room for underlining. It is nice and sharp. I would call it semi-bold. It’s consistent throughout and a joy to read. The red-letter is about a medium shade. It’s also consistent with no fading.

Size and Layout
For me, the size of this Bible is perfect. It is 8.75 x 5.75 x 1.5 and feels right in my hand. It is easy to hold in one hand.

This has a double-column layout in paragraph format. Section headings are placed throughout the text. Footnotes and references are located at the bottom of the page and are keyed to the text with numbers and letters. References are mostly found in the New Testament, but there are not many of them. There are more footnotes than references. Many pages have neither. OT quotes and poetry are in verse format.

Every book starts on its own page. I wish all Bibles did this as this is aesthetically pleasing and gives valuable writing space.

The concordance is 56 pages and it says it contains almost 14,000 entries and 300,000 verses. There are 57 entries for ‘God’. It is large enough to be useful in Bible study or quick referencing.

There is only one ribbon. It is long and is a shade of mahogany that is slightly lighter than the cover. it looks nice and is usable, though it is on the skinny side.

This Bible is a joy to read. It has become my favorite ESV reading Bible. It is free from distractions and still has a few helps with footnotes and section headings that don’t get in the way of my reading. The line-matching does greatly improve readability. There is more show-through in poetry sections than I like, but that’s a minor complaint. I would have liked to have maps. Overall, this is a nice edition of the ESV for anyone looking for large print without too many distractions. I highly recommend it as a reading Bible.

Ideal Size. 28 Feb. 2014

I have been waiting for Crossway to make an edition of the ESV that is similar to editions of other versions by their competitors. A personal size, large print edition is very popular among those who love to read the Word of God.

This Bible fits well in the hand, feels comfortable to hold and is easy to read the generous print. I have an ESV giant print edition with larger print, but it is quite heavy and big to hold for very long.

The cover of this Bible is quite handsome. It has sewn binding, like most Crossway Bibles, so it opens well. The paper is adequately thick, however liquid type highlighters might show through the other side of the page.

There is only one criticism I have for this Bible: Unlike most other Bibles, it has no maps in the back. There is an ESV concordance, but that is where the edition ends.

I still give this Bible five stars because, in my opinion, it is well made, a perfect size to handle, and easy to read. It makes reading God's Word a pleasurable experience.

Very nearly perfect 6 Mar. 2014

This edition hits a sweet spot for those of us who need larger print but want an attractive and portable format. The height, width and thickness are just right, giving it a very nice feel in the hand. The type size is just right for my eyes, about 12 point, and easy to read, but the best part of this bible is the line matching. This is such a nice feature I can't imagine buying another bible without it.

Nevertheless, this bible is only nearly perfect. The hinges are visible beneath the leather cover, which makes for a less than optimal aesthetic. The binding, though durable, is by no means flexible or "floppy" (hopefully it will improve with use). The paper is only passable because of the line matching; otherwise the paper is too thin and shows too much ghosting. Finally, for a short and stout bible such as this one, it would have been a useful trade off to add more pages in order to make room for the excellent ESV one paragraph book intros and a few maps in the back.

All in all, I am very pleased with this bible edition. I imagine it will become my standard "every day" bible in my preaching and teaching work. Thanks, Crossway, for listening to the desires of the vision impaired and producing a Bible we can read and enjoy.

Good Size and look. Average To Me 19 July 2014

This was the first large print bible I've ever bought. I'm young but I'd rather have a readable bible rather than a portable one. This one really hit a sweet spot. It looks and feels great on the outside and has the perfect size print.

The main problem is the text bleeds through the pages. Because the text is much bigger, it is like your reading cross eyed almost. To me this bibles writing bled through much more than any other version I own. With the size being bigger of the text they needed to factor that element in and they didn't.

The Bible I received also came with a small blemish on the back of the Bible. Basically a small part will probably start peeling soon.

So I wouldn't go with my review as the one with truth because everyone is different and most people probably didn't have noticeable blemishes on their bible.

Just factor in the bleeding thing and choose wisely

The perfect Bible 3 Aug. 2014

This Bible is perfect for me. It's the right size and weight and the 12 pt. print is great but not like giant 18 pt. print. I liked my previous Bible but the 8 pt. print was too small even with my reading glasses. I have had a Friday morning Bible study and breakfast for many years now and some of the places where we have it don't have the lighting needed to read it easily. This Bible is very attractive, and well constructed. It stays open to any page and fits the hands well. It does not contain the pages of maps which I would seldom use anyway and make the Bible thicker and heavier. I highly recommend it.
