I (and my son) became fans of the Large family since we read the first book, Five Minutes Peace. I was looking for hardback edition with all four stories, alas without success. So... as soon as this book appeared at Amazon I've ordered it although we already had all the four books in paperbacks. I have to say I am slightly disappointed by this edition compared with paperback versions. Some of the pictures got too small while others (for instance, my son's favourite one where the dieting elephants get rid of crisps, bisquits and bananas) have disappeared altogether. If you have kids and never had any of the Large family books, buy this book. It is great value and stories are just wonderful. You will love them. But if you've got the original paperbacks, don't hurry to throw them away.

My four-year-old son and I love the Large family. The pictures are really great and the best thing about them is that the stories are easy to relate to, as they happen to most of us. A quiet night in sets a good example for kids and makes it easy to explain that a little 'non-kids-time' can be neccessary.

I won't comment on the quality of the writing, as many other reviewers have voiced their opinions on that subject, but please be aware that this collection only contains about half the illustrations from the books as they were published in their single-story form. Since it is the pictures rather than the words that appeal to the younger reader (and, I suspect, most of the older readers too), this is not the money-saving opportunity it may appear.
I had purchased one of the individual books and enjoyed it very much with my 2 year old daughter, so decided to purchase this collection to get the rest. I found it much more wordy since there is now twice as much text per illustration, and it is less appealing to its intended audience because of this imbalance. Avoid this edition and buy the single books (or get them from the library!)
