About the Author

Keith Giffen works waaaay too much, and frankly... it worries us. A true Renaissance man, Keith has provided either plotting, scripting, breakdowns, pencils, or any combination thereof for titles such as ALL-STAR COMICS, LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES, RAGMAN, CREEPER, LOBO, SUICIDE SQUAD, The Defenders, Hero Squared!, and, um... AMBUSH BUG. Most recently he's been involved with the weekly series 52 and COUNTDOWN TO FINAL CRISIS, as well as 52 AFTERMATH: THE FOUR HORSEMEN and MIDNIGHTER, plus a gazillion other things.

By Gareth HALL OF FAMETOP 50 REVIEWER on 13 Jan. 2015
Format: Paperback
The story running through issues #1-6 of the New 52's Larfleeze series is collected, along with his five 10-page back-up stories from Threshold Volume 1: The Hunted TP (The New 52), as Larfleeze Volume 1: Revolt of the Orange Lanterns TP (The New 52). The two stories are related, as the first one - running through the backups - leads directly into the new series. If you have read Threshold (or any of Keith Giffen's New 52 stories), then you know what to expect: a comedic story set in space with lots of strange aliens and the odd human. If you haven't read any of his New 52 stories, then that's what you should expect. Just because they are comedic doesn't mean there is not death, destruction and mayhem - for this is Larfleeze that we are talking about (not to mention Keith Giffen).

Anyway, the back-up stories involve Larfleeze being robbed of all his possessions and even his power battery, by what turn out to be his mutinous ring constructs. He sets out with his faithful butler, Pulsar Stargrave - think of a green Alfred - to track down his lost property, hiring the Star Rovers (from Threshold - just go and read it to save having all these interruptions) to assist him. Long story short, his ring was booby-trapped by [spoiler] some time back, in case she died, to wreak vengeance on Larfleeze. How well this succeeded is open to question, and is continued in the main series.

The main series opens with Larfleeze soliloquising to Pulsar Stargrave at the edge of the Universe, at the Cosmic Nexus - the Creation Point, where energy becomes matter, and vice versa, unquote.

Larfleeze is usually a very comical character in the DC universe. His unrelenting greed and desire to own anything and everything oftens plays off humorously against other, more complex characters, most recently in Green Lantern: New Guardians, but here, for the first time ever(i think), Larfleeze takes centre stage and it results in a highly entertaining story set in the cosmic part of the DC universe.

For those that don't know, Larfleeze is the wielder of the sole Orange Lantern, the light of avarice and greed, and has spent an eternity hoarding possessions and artifacts together to satisfy said greed. That's all you really need to know going into the comic, as it does a pretty good job of introducing the character and his single mindendness and borderline insane personality, so if you're worried about not knowing much about the character, don't be, they explain it well. This graphic novel collects "The Larfleeze stories from threshold #1-5", which is essentially one long issue that introduces the main story, followed by Larfleeze #1-6, the main show. The story all ties together, starting off with Larfleeze being tricked and robbed of all his possessions, to which he does not react very well. We then follow Larfleeze and his reluctant butler Stargrave across the galaxy as he tries to get his possessions back, before running into the all powerful cosmic entity "The Laord Of The Hunt", and his sister "The Wanderer", both of which have travelled to this dimension from their own, which has been utterly destroyed by millions of years of fighting.
