Product Description

Product Description

Here at last–the first exciting book in a bold new series of Lara Croft novels tying directly into the popular video games. The Amulet of Power reveals the never-before shown events that took place between “The Last Revelation” and “Angel of Darkness.” Trapped beneath the ruins of an Egyptian tomb, Lara faces certain death . . . until fate intervenes and sets her on the trail of an ancient talisman of power.

Archaeologist and explorer Lara Croft travels the world in search of ancient relics, forgotten crypts, and lost cities. Highly trained for combat and possessing an insatiable appetite for adventure, she answers to no one and goes wherever the quest takes her–heedless of the danger.

When Lara turns up in the Middle East, despite the rumors of her death, religious fanatics believe she has located the coveted Amulet of Mareish. Lost since the siege of Khartoum, the amulet is rumored to grant the wearer untold power. Some long to possess it, others want to see it destroyed, and both sides pursue Lara relentlessly. While she fights trained warriors and ruthless mercenaries, and desperately searches for the jewel they all seek, one thing becomes clear: the fate of the world rests in the hands of . . .

LARA CROFT: TOMB RAIDER.

As the novel which was supposed to bridge the gap between Lara's apparent death in The Last Revelation and her visit to Von Croy in Paris at the start of Angel Of Darkness, this couldn't be more disappointing. As other readers have pointed out, Lara's character is completely unsympathetic. She blasts away at virtually anything that moves, and the human (and animal) death toll in this book rivals an Arnie movie, all without Lara batting an eyelid at the carnage. The plot itself is very derivative and the 'surprise twist' is obvious from the beginning. Perhaps the biggest foul-up of all is the fact that the novel ends with Lara in Paris, happily strolling off to meet Von Croy for a pleasant dinner date, when we know from AOD that she is FURIOUS with Von Croy as she blames him for leaving her to die in the Temple of Horus at the end of TLR. What a howler! Really, unless you are desperate to own EVERYTHING related to Lara, I advise you to forget about buying this.

When i heard there was a tombraider book i could'nt wait till i could get on to amazon to buy it, and when i finally got it i could'nt wait to read it, but when i did i could'nt beleive how poor the description the was, how much they had changed lara's character in general i mean lara doesnt need anyone but she is still human i mean she still has feeling's (despite how many people she has killed), but the author made her into a cold hearted lonley freak which she is'nt at all. It woulnd'nt suprise me if the author has'nt even played the games, because by the sound in it he a lack of enthusiasm (sorry if i have made any spelling mistakes through out this review) for this character and the book in general. This book is a must have for all tombraider fans and collector's but if you just want a book to read and thought this would be a nice change i am sorry to say you would be sadly disapointed, i just hope to god that the next book is a hole lot better, as alot of the tombraider fans will have bought the new book the lost cult even though they were sickened by the lack of story line and complete butchereing of the character in this book, ( i cannot dis these people though as i am one of them) So my advise save your money for the next book in desperate hope that it will be alot better!!

Well my guess is that Eidos Interactive are less then impressed with this particular franchise of Lady Croft. It's not good - and we (fellow Tomb Raiders) are used to the word 'good' at a level that few digitaised game characters have ever achieved.

Lara Croft was created by a team of hundreds, each with specialist knowledge of everything she interacts with - and that's just the story boards. This book was written by Mr Resnick alone. And therein lies all the errors with this tome.

If you are a Lara fan - you will buy this. You will enjoy it through gritted teeth and you will hope to goodness that the next book in the series (The Lost Cult) will be a significant improvement because you'll no doubt buy that too.

It is filled with inaccuracies - Lara appears to use many Americanisms for a start, even if she does drive a Landrover.

It must be a hard act to follow the official novelisations of the two films. Mr Resnick has produced something worthy of taking away with you on Holiday. A true fan would take time off work just to read the book at home and it is the true fans who will be the bulk buyers of this book.

A 'could be better' on your 'must read' list but only because there isn't any other material out there. Eidos - why is this?
