very good information,

This review is from: The Laptop Repair Workbook: An Introduction to Troubleshooting and Repairing Laptop Computers (Paperback)
This is an early review, I've read through several dozen pages.
Half of the book is text explanation of the issues of laptop ownership and operation, cautions on working with laptops, etc. I think the first 40 pages should be read by anyone thinking of purchasing a laptop. It gives a good grounding on features, how they differ from desktop computers in design, access to internals, upgrade options, etc. This is followed by repair decision flowcharts that are compact and focused. It is always good to have an efficient decision tree. Each chart then includes descriptions of chart components on pages that follow, a great idea. By the way, the author self-publishes at Foner Books and the support web site there is a great adjunct to the book. For example, the text in the book mentions about using a multimeter to test output on an AC adapter. It cautions that you should get the laptop manufacturer's repair (not user) manual as models vary greatly. The caution is repeated on the web site (he has an overall video intro that helps) but the site has photos of the task using a particular laptop model to give a general idea. The book is thin and can easily fit in a gear bag, if needed. All in all, this is well-recommended.

confundido,
This review is from: The Laptop Repair Workbook: An Introduction to Troubleshooting and Repairing Laptop Computers (Paperback)
I wanted to do a simple repair- resolder the internal socket where the power input plugs in.But there was absolutely no information or drawing or photograph enabling me to open the laptop and get to the socket where the connecting wire was broken.Even the cheapest car repair manual provides diagrams or fuzzy photographs to help a repair procedure. But here there was nothing. I ended up paying a repair workshop £85 to do a simple bit of soldering. Absolutely useless book.
