Built a new PC but naively thought that the existing Zoom USB 802.11b/g would work with Windows 7 64 bit. Unfortunately, it seems Zoom can't be bothered to provide a Windows 7 driver let alone for 64.

Looked around and, for the price, thought I couldn't go wrong with the Laptone although I'd not heard of the brand. I'm pleased to say it works out of the box. Just install the network utility from the CD, configure your connection to your router and you are away. You don't even need to install the device driver as Windows recognises the hardware as soon as it is plugged in. Although my router (Netgear)is not 802.11n there seems to be a much stronger signal than with the Zoom adapter and no dropped connections.
This device is not shown in Microsoft's Windows 7 compatible products but it definitely works and with a minimum of fuss.

We recently changed our broadband provider and needed to go wireless. I started off by spending around £30 on a Netgear dongle that would not work on the computer with Windows 7, no matter what. After 4 days of trying to install it and with about 2 hours' worth of phonecalls to the product support team, I gave up! I returned the product to the shop and started my search afresh.

I was attracted to this item by its price and its rating.

The items arrived promptly. The enclosed CD contained the up-to-date drivers for the adapter - I did not have to trawl the internet and download the latest versions as was my previous experience. The entire installation took just 5 minutes from start to finish. It works beautifully on my computer with Windows XP and on my husband's computer with Windows 7.

We have been using these adapters on a daily basis for the past two weeks without any glitches or problems.
I am so pleased with this product that I am now buying one more for my son's computer for when he is back from the uni for holidays.

Easily set up on Windows 7, without needing to use the disc. Working perfectly for nearly a month at the time of writing.

I have bought several much more expensive wireless adaptors but the problem I found with them all was that because of the size they kept getting knocked. On one occasion this damaged the USB port in which it was inserted. I thought, therefore, that I would give this nano adaptor a go since it was only £6.99 with free P & P.The adaptor arrived quickly and was as described - tiny. It took 2 or 3 attempts to get it to work since the software was not that intuitive. However, once working it operated satisfactorily when used in a PC in the same room as the wireless router. It connects seamlessly each time I start the PC. Great! However, when I try it in a PC on the second floor the signal keeps dropping away and the connection is frequently lost. Even when connected the transfer rate is only 1 Mbps. This is disappointing for a 150Mbps device. I have reverted to a 54Mbps adaptor on the second PC since this gives me a transfer rate of 18Mbps. In summary, its cheap and does work so long as you are not very far away from the router but disappointing performance for a 150Mbps device.

I thought it would be useful to let people know that this dongle works perfectly with Ubuntu Linux 12.04 out of the box.
The signal is not great, but that could be because I am using it in a desktop machine, which is placed on the floor, and we have stone walls.

I bought this USB wireless stick for our new PC that did not come with a wireless card. I choose it (like many it seems) based on its over-whelming positive reviews. However, my experience wasn't entirely smooth.

Easy to install, works straight out of the box. Connection to our Virgin Router (approx 8m away through 2x external walls) shows 3-4 bars... not the best, but at least its connected.

The problem I had was an extremely slow connection to the Internet. Installing products like Visual Studio 2012 and SQL Server 2012 (large packages ~ 600Mb) took an age... and quite often timed out with a dropped connection. Our Virgin connection is supposedly 30Mbs, and download speeds were indicating ~60kbs... slow!

Many other reviews state this issue without a resolution. So here's mine and it's really simple! After an online speed test showed a faster upload speed than download speed (yeah, that's right... it was something like 0.29Mbs download), I simply took out the USB stick and placed it into a different USB port on my PC, the one on the front (it was initially in the back). Did the same online speed test and got 32Mbs. Bingo.

I tried all the USB ports on the rear of my PC, and they all exhibited the same speed, whilst the two front ports did not. So I surmised that either the read USB ports are slow, or there is interference back there (could be the power cables, the DVI lead for the monitor, anything). So I used a USB extention cable on a rear port to so that the device was located at the front of the PC. Ran a speed test again and got 28Mbs. Perfect.

So there you have it. I conclude that possibly many of the bad reports for this product "may" be down to their own individual hardware circumstances.
