5.0 out of 5 stars No drama 25 April 2010
Built a new PC but naively thought that the existing Zoom USB 802.11b/g would work with Windows 7 64 bit. Unfortunately, it seems Zoom can't be bothered to provide a Windows 7 driver let alone for 64.

Looked around and, for the price, thought I couldn't go wrong with the Laptone although I'd not heard of the brand. I'm pleased to say it works out of the box. Just install the network utility from the CD, configure your connection to your router and you are away. You don't even need to install the device driver as Windows recognises the hardware as soon as it is plugged in. Although my router (Netgear)is not 802.11n there seems to be a much stronger signal than with the Zoom adapter and no dropped connections.
This device is not shown in Microsoft's Windows 7 compatible products but it definitely works and with a minimum of fuss.

5.0 out of 5 stars Look no further - excellent value for money 28 Feb 2011

We recently changed our broadband provider and needed to go wireless. I started off by spending around 30 on a Netgear dongle that would not work on the computer with Windows 7, no matter what. After 4 days of trying to install it and with about 2 hours' worth of phonecalls to the product support team, I gave up! I returned the product to the shop and started my search afresh.

I was attracted to this item by its price and its rating.

The items arrived promptly. The enclosed CD contained the up-to-date drivers for the adapter - I did not have to trawl the internet and download the latest versions as was my previous experience. The entire installation took just 5 minutes from start to finish. It works beautifully on my computer with Windows XP and on my husband's computer with Windows 7.

We have been using these adapters on a daily basis for the past two weeks without any glitches or problems.
I am so pleased with this product that I am now buying one more for my son's computer for when he is back from the uni for holidays.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works well but set up not as easy as hoped 21 Oct 2010
What I got: Box containing the dongle, installation CD and a two side colour instruction leaflet.

General impressions: The dongle is a smart looking shiny black, protected by a plastic film and protrudes 4 cms when inserted into a usb slot. It comes with a cap to protect the usb connector but unfortunately this does not fit on the other end once the dongle is inserted into a usb port and so will get lost. The dongle is however slim enough to allow a plain usb plug to fit easily into the next usb slot along so no risk of losing access to a usb port. The instructions are written in clear english along with some screen shots in colour and line illustrations.

Installation: Inserting the CD on a Windows 7 system does not autorun a setup utility. As per the instructions, it's necessary to open My Computer and navigate to the CD and then run the setup file and follow the simple instructions. Driver installation seemed quite slow but there were no problems. Windows 7 detected the device when plugged in and installed it quickly. The instructions then say to double click the icon in the system tray to launch a configuration utility. No sign of this utility at all but a single click gives access to screens to enter the SSID and security key. (The utility can be found via the Start menu after installation and has some handy features like a signal strength meter.) Result, network detected but no internet access even after checking that the router was broadcasting the network name. Right clicking the device icon lets you run Windows own network and sharing utility, from which security keys and connect even if SSID not being transmitted can be selected. A much better bet but still no internet. The dongle has a plastic switch on its side marked WPS.

Very easy to install - it took me less than 5 minutes from opening the box to being able to access the internet. I live in an old house with very thick walls and the adaptor picks up a good signal 30+ feet away and through a closed door from the router. I struggled at times to even get a signal with my old adaptor. We only have 0.5 meg of broadband, so don't know how fast or slow it is, compared to other adaptors, but seems fine to me. I would recommend it.
