4.0 out of 5 stars Laos footprint guide - oh so helpful! 7 July 2009
By EC
Format:Paperback
The 2008 version of this footprint guide is a great travelling companion. The background information on the country is really interesting and helps you understand cultural sensitivites. The actual info on places to stay, eat and how to get around are really good. I don't like taking Lonely Planet guides away as all of the pre or immediately post-uni lot always have that and footprints are now my favourite guides and suggest places that other guidebooks don't. Only small quibble would be that the maps aren't great, but it was easy enough to pick up free local one's in most places. Still better than other guidebooks!

4.0 out of 5 stars Best guidebook to Laos 14 Feb 2009
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Footprint Guides are known for their individual slant and respectful attitude. The Laos guide is no exception. It contains all the usual information about where to eat and sleep and how to get about (though, as with any guidebook, there are inevitable inaccuracies as information goes out of date so fast) but it does rather more, helping the more independent minded traveller to get off the beaten track but also to be mindful of local sensibilities.

4.0 out of 5 stars " weeks with the guide in Lao 1 Jun 2010
Format:Paperback
Some great stuff in here, particularly the historical background and descriptions of historical sites like palaces and temples. but..... the book is laid out in a weird way, its not easy to follow - I nearly binned it a few times - and referred back to my old Lonely Planet of SE Asia - still the best I reckon.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good, worth bringing there 27 Dec 2008
By Paul S - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I used this guide and the Rough Guide in Lao in Dec 08. I'd give a wee edge to this guide over the Rough GUide, perhaps because of maps and the lodging and restaraunts included. Ideally, get both and bring one or both. I saw a lot of people carrying this guide in Lao.

Riddled with errors (approx. one per page in the sections I used). Incomprehensibly written. Poorly organized. Maps only feature hotels and restaurants, not sights. This holds true for their Thailand, Laos, Vietnam volumes.
