This book is a two part set of a guide book and map. I thought from the description that there would be more than two parts to the pack.

The map was clear and useful for driving around Lanzarote and had viewpoints listed as well as showing which of the routes are scenic routes. It did not show all petrol stations, though and it would have been useful to include the locations of shops and restauarants.

The book had useful information about each area of Lanzarote and the main tourist attractions. One omission was the prices of each tourist attraction. A useful tip for anyone visiting the main tourist attractions: you can get a "four places" pass that costs 24 euros instead of paying separately at each place. We visited all four but paid separately and so wasted money. Be prepared for long queues to the National Park. The car park is small and operates on a one in, one out basis with several hours of queueing. The service in the restaurant in the park is also very slow, although it is very cheap (the book says that it is "luxury", it is not expensive or great quality, only the surroundings are special. Worth it for the novelty). The book seemed to be aimed at people staying in hotels and did not include locations of food shops so if you are self cateringm in a villa you will need to look this up before you go. Ropers supermarket in Playa Blanca was good but we didn't find it until near the end of our holiday. Many of the supermarkets are overpriced with a limited stock due to the fact that everything has to be imported.

We visited the north of the island during a sirocco, which is a really hot wind blowing from Africa. It was cooler in the North so I would reccomend you do this too if one of the 40-50 degree winds blows while you are visiting. The book is split into areas of the island so you can plan your trip in this way to visit several things in the same area. The island is relatively small and so it is easy to get around, particularly if you hire a car. Do venture out of your resort.

Just back from Lanzarote and this travel guide helped us enjoy and get the most out of the island. A good size, easy to carry, it went with us every day. We hired a car and didn't miss seeing much, thanks to the book's excellent tips and suggestions. It gives a detailed overview of the island, i.e. history, economy, people and then it is sectioned into Lanzarote's four major areas, North, Central, South and its Capital city. It also includes information on a day trip to the Northern Island of Fuerteventura. We particularly enjoyed the little coloured blocks of information on many of the pages, which detailed interesting facts about the island, like Lanzarote's unusual industry, the production of cochineal; volcanic lava tubes; and the wild canary. The super-sized map, neatly tucked away in the back of the book's plastic cover was indispensable. We found it accurate and very easy to read. Loved this travel guide and highly recommend it.
