Few holidaymakers realise that Lanzarote has more to offer than just beaches and sunshine. This fascinating island is truly extraordinary. Its fate was decided some two and one-half centuries ago, when the largest volcanic eruption in recorded history took place, leaving a strange and alluring countryside in its wake - a landscape littered with volcanoes and dark streams of jagged lava. A very useful and reliable walking guide,

I am keen on walking and hiking and I love islands. Most of the time, I buy the best map I can find as well as the most recent countryside guide of the Sunflower Landscapes series. Why? Simply because I discovered that the maps of for example the Canary Islands and the Greek Islands are not very good. A lot of the most interesting tracks and paths (especially the smallest) are not on these maps. And I am someone who makes rather long walks and I don't like the idea of not getting all the information I want.
So, when taking the airplane to Lanzarote this year in March, I had not only the Kompass map of Lanzarote with me but the "Landscapes of Lanzarote" as well. And I am glad I did carry it with me. This guide really is good stuff. The nicest walks are in this guide. The texts are well written and the maps are simple but adequate. I also like the update service that Sunflower Books is giving. Besides, it is very practical that the Sunflower guides have the bus timetables in them as well. This really makes it easier to plan a walking holiday.

the Landscape for this island is a very good guide. i truly suggest it to you. I used it many days, and was always suitable. but, if you want to pass some time in the wilderness, I suggest you to buy a map too.. it's not really uptodate, two years has passed since last revision; but it's not so important: you have always to check timetables by yourself; it's simply a good practice. the island is little, you can do the path by yourself, but having a guide like this is essential. if your are not looking for impressive, (more dangerous) places, but simply you want to admirate how nice is this place, the Sunflower is perfect: you can walk with common shoes and enjoy the island,having "someone" who take care of you .

What's great about this book is that it gives loads of detailed and useful information about not only the usual places to see, but also places off the beaten track that I'd never have thought of visiting. The tours are easy to follow, as are the maps - also the descriptions help to appreciate the beauty, background and diversity of this island and help dispel its image as a tourist trap with a barren landscape. Like any published guide, specific details e.g. entrance fees, can become out of date; nevertheless it's still accurate on the things you really need to know, and I still find it invaluable when visiting the island. I would recommend this book to anyone who really wants to get to know Lanzarote well. It's more for the independent traveller and walker than the shopper or the resort-bound holidaymaker...but that's why I like it!
