Product Description

Product Description

The House of Lanvin evolved from the creative force and remarkable energy of an extraordinary woman, Jeanne Lanvin. Her design career survived fifty-six successful and productive years. Lanvin is the oldest surviving couture house, in near-continuous existence from 1909 through the present day. Her body of work includes millinery, children’s wear, haute couture, fragrances, furs, lingerie, menswear, and interior design among others. The continuous public appeal and the youthful image of these couture creations are lasting aspects of Madame Lanvin’s career. At the heart of this book are key collections from 1909 through 1946, the year of Lanvin’s death. Original fashion illustrations, beading and embroidery swatches play a crucial role in demonstrating her intricate, creative, and innovative techniques. The house of Lanvin is currently experiencing a period of great acclaim, emerging as a darling of the press, Hollywood, and the larger fashion community. With the most modern of efforts, Alber Elbaz, the current design director, is drawing from the rich Lanvin tradition to create an award-winning collection that at once evokes, reveres, and reinvents the intentions of its founder.

Lanvin
This is a sumptuous book full of inspiration to any budding designer or anyone with an interest in Haute Couture. I had no idea just how influential Lanvin was at the time and it is interesting to discover just what a massive body of work she has left behind. The history is fascinating and accompanied by contemporaneous illustrations and photographs, alongside detailed photographs of the clothes and information about the people who commissioned the garments. The text is intelligently written and clearly illustrates the development of Lanvin's design house up to the present day though I must confess to being more inspired by the historical designs. I can recommend this to anyone with an interest in fashion, textiles or even social history.

Love it! 24 Aug 2009
Format:Hardcover
This is sumptuous book! The photos are all beautiful quality and include pictures of complete garments and close ups of details. The commentary is also excellent and much more detailed than many fashion books. If you are interested in fashion design or dressmaking then this is a wonderull book-highly recommended!

Gorgeous Book! 1 Mar 2010
Format:Hardcover
Gorgeous book from a designer who is not quite as well known as her contemporary Coco Chanel, yet her work is just as good. Now under the direction of Alber Elbaz, this book covers Jeanne Lanvin's early years & family life through to modern day and the revival of the brand since Elbaz took reign. An interesting read as well an abundance of lovely pictures, although you shouldn't judge a book by its cover, in this case the gorgeous cover is only the start of a great coffee table book!
