I bought this book as I'm usually so happy with the lonely planet guide books and they've guided me around many countries but this one is just ridiculously out of date.
For example, it says that the East coast is still under strict guard with road blocks but this is not the case. When I showed that to the locals they were actually really upset as they're trying to make their country foreigner-friendly after a difficult time and this guide book doesn't help to get travellers to the East where money is very welcome after the Tsunami and fighting.
Despite saying it is printed recently the hotel I was staying at phoned their Asian office and they admitted they hadn't re-researched the existing information and had simply printed it again under a new date which I think it pretty awful!
Also, the map in the front is very inaccurate with some islands (for example pigeon island) being in completely the wrong place.
It's a beautiful, safe country and the people are so friendly. I would reccommend buying any other guide book and going off on a great holiday!

Having used 20+ lonely planet guidebooks, I tend to rely on them as been a good source of information in a familiar format.
I must agree with other reviews (outside Amazon) that this seems to be poorly researched, or just out of date.
You expect a few inaccuracies, but this clearly has more than any other I have used before.
LP please update this book for the next release.

first to the Amazon delivery: despite the promise of delivery in 3 to 5 business days, the book arrived in 7 business days (9 days minus weekend) - by which time I already was in Sri Lanka, and had bought my book elsewhere.
Regarding the LP Sri Lanka itself - I have never seen a LP with so many mistakes in it! Starting with the direction to take a 100rp tuktuk to the bus station - when there is a free shuttle, to the price indication of the bus to Colombo costing 80 rp when it's only 40, to a train to Haputale indicated to go 4 hours instead of 9 - tragically sad. I could go on - hope the other future LPs are better researched!Sri Lanka (Lonely Planet Country Guides)

Perfect guide!
Definitely worth buying it. We were able to plan reasonably our trip to Sri Lanka. I am a fan of Lonely Planet and having already a nice collection at home. That says everything.
