Amazon.co.uk Review

It's Jo And Danny may be a daft name for a band, but in this case it's very fitting. This London duo have made a debut album that is simply the sound of two music lovers pouring every influence they've got onto a four-track recorder. There's no frills, no big production and no big names; instead, the guitars, drums, vocals, a studio on loan and a little imagination all guarantee that every minute of these awkward, misshapen tunes sounds totally home-made. From the psychedelic acoustic rock opener of "Solar Plexus"--Oasis meets Primal Scream in the studio with Crosby, Stills and Nash--to the Super Furry Animals-style folk/pop instrumental "Arkle", it's clear that there's no hidden agenda, no obvious direction and no master plan; just two people, who don't give a damn what other people think, making music that's odd, innocent and downright beautiful. --Dan Gennoe

4.0 out of 5 stars Like a warm summers day of laid back pop classics, 21 April 2001
This review is from: Lank Haired Girl To Bearded Boy (Audio CD)
Right then, how do I explain this one to you? Layered tinkerings culminating in a battling cacophony of sounds, but not just any battle, more the beautiful sort from a John Woo film with intricate choreography; and that's just the first track. Jo and Danny (Jo Bartlett and Danny Hagan) have crafted an album of trully visceral effect. Each and every part of your body will weep with emotion in some way. Vivaciously blessed guitars, horns, bass, blend with analogue experimental treats dealt with a soft hand. Jo's sun-soaked and often lullaby inspired vocals lend themselves to cryptic observations (Pilgrim's Prayer) and gushing emotion (Repentant Song). Unfortunately, it fails to inspire for more than 35 minutes and nine gorgeous tracks, which is its one true let down. Encore!

Well I thought the group and album name were the other way around. I picked this up in a store and bought on the strength of the 1st track. Lovely guitars, tape starting and stopping and 'hand claps' pull you in until the tempo ups and blows you away. I play it loud in the car. It's my joint favourite track I bought this year!

5.0 out of 5 stars small, but perfectly formed., 16 Aug 2000
So you've never heard of 'em either. I think that's the way jo and danny like it, but who am i to complain. A hugely upifting group of fun songs that will ring around your head for ages. If you're looking for something slightly off the beaten track then Jo and Danny are the equivalent of a B&B in the Lake District ............... somewhere ....................... whatever. Give it a try, you will not be dissapointed.
