This course really works and as advertised. For nearly a year now, I´ve been teaching a two-week, 20-hour course in conversational Spanish, using my book as the text for the class. The results have been overwhelming and have gone well beyond my wildest dreams for the results to be obtained using my techniques.
More than 80% of my students who have completed this course have been able to sit down and carry on a one to two hour conversation non-stop in Spanish by the end of the second week. Of the remaining 20%, about 75% of them got there by the end of one additional week. So, we´re talking about a success rate of 95% at the end of a three week period of time.
Why does it work? It works, because it is a technique that is logical, follows a natural learning progression, and one which eliminates all of the superfluous linguistic teaching of traditional language schools. It´s this superfluous teaching which too often makes learning a language so difficult.
The most astounding results have been obtained with students who have already taken a previous traditionally taught language course only to complete it and discover that they still couldn´t carry on a conversation. The author seems to be bubbling over with enthusiasm about how one can "get by" in Spanish in 2-3 weeks ... something he re-iterates at least half a dozen times in the first 2 chapters of the book! He also seems to absolutely love underlining sentences for emphasis, and there's a liberal sprinkling of italics too. Far too much double-spacing here too. The format of the book looks like it's been printed directly from the author's word-processed manuscript, and not published properly. Authorhouse is a self-publishing outfit; perhaps that's why there was so much leeway for the author to dictate the format of the book? I know you should never judge a book by its cover, but this book could have been made much smaller and compact, and thus more user-friendly. Anyway, once you get past these small niggly bits, there ARE some new things you can learn from the book. The information comes out slowly, though, you have to wade through the author's ruminations first before you get to the meaty bits. Stay with it, and you WILL learn to "get by" in Spanish in 2-3 weeks, to quote the author (again)! I wouldn't say it was the best on the market, though...

As a busy person who needed to learn quickly, this book, for me, was a dream come true. I have tried other courses in the past three years since moving to Spain, but I never got anywhere.THIS book changed my life. It was a perfect solution to my struggles with Spanish, because the author has some great tricks for remembering the essentials and some incredible revelations for learning ONLY what you need to know and what is practical. None of the typical stuff like "the pencil is yellow." This course cuts well and truly cuts through crap. If you want to speak Spanish, don't pick up any other book but this one. It is a wonderful language resource.
