La Palma is volcanic, and very steep paths. This guide is best if you can walk like a goat - it cannot distinguish if the path is suitable. Not recommended.

Landscapes of La Palma and El Hierro: Car Tours and Walks
We have always found the Sunflower guides to of a consistantly high standard. The directions are accurate & easy to follow even when not using GPS as a back up. We've used these Sunflower guides all over Europe and would recommend them to all walkers as you can keep up to date with the latest information through their free update service. The book is light weight & perfectly sized for regularly retrieving from the pocket. The maps can be a little small but this has been cured with the new pdf versions which allow you to print maps up to A3 size! We also tried the La Palma summits drive from the guidebook on a rainy day & were soon above the clouds in brilliant sunshine enjoying a spectacular view. Top tip: If its raining on one side of the island then drive or bus to the other side where you will probably find the sun - This worked for us on 2 occasions. Walking routes & car tours all in one guide book which is very user friendly - that can't be bad for the price!

The beauty of the sunflower guides is that they don't try to cover too large an area. A guide for the best bits of Hierro and La Palma means there is a huge amount of detail. If you love OS maps at home then you'll find the Sunflower maps an excellent substitue abroad. Add to that the photos and route descriptions and you have a superb resource when you're out and about. Finally, the background information on buses, places to eat, weather etc. is excellent too. We used it to self-guide some stunning walks and drives around El Hierro. Whenever we know we're going walking then I look for the blue bible!

Good guide for walkers. We haven't yet visited La Palma, but we were able to follow the walks on El Hierro and adapt them to our needs.

Useful guide, excellent updates

i have used several of the titles in this series and this one was just as good. The maps are really useful but a good quality local map does compliment them. Read more
