Gran Canaria has always been underrated as a holiday destination for lovers of the countryside, due to the fame of its sand-dune beaches and hours of sunshine. But those who know the island would agree that it is truly a 'continent in minature', with a fantastic diversity of landscapes. From the hub of the cumbre, the island's great saddle, ravines (barrancos) are born and fan out seaward like spokes on a wheel. Each has its own little secret to share. This guide has proved invaluable, it is easy to follow and I found its timings of distances walked very good. A lot of the routes are well signed, but this guide gets you out of the village to the start of the walking route, which is sometimes the hardest bit of the walk.

Very good walking guide but not enough circular walks suitable for those with a hire car. Very few intermediate spot heights are given on walks which would have been useful. However it would be almost impossible to walk in Gran Canaria without this guide.
A Great little guide book to get you off the sun lounger and off into the interior of this beautiful island. Each walk is concisely and accurately described, with the introduction to each walk informing you what you're letting yourself in for! (Though we did find the walks easier that stated in the introductions).
The accompanying maps are a bit basic, the contour lines are at 100 metre intervals and there is no vegetation detail. But most Spanish maps are pretty rubbish anyway! And maybe there are too many linear walks for my liking.
Altogether though a nice book to slip into your pocket and go explore.
