Treasured Companion,

This book is just what the title says, a companion. Taking it on a walk was like having an extremely knowledgeable friend with me. I thought the section on map reading and routefinding was brilliant.I've always been a bit map dyslexic but because the explanations are clear I actually found it simple. The book covers so much it gave me a great sense of connection with the natural world.I loved the section on weather forcasting and found it invaluable, especially when trying to decide how long to push on for.I had a great time looking out for the flowers and animal tracks described in the book and after reading the folklore bits I began to feel as though I really knew the area in some depth, which is important to me when I travel. The stars in the night sky bit is pretty good too! The other book I had with me, "Landscapes of the Pyrenees", is by the same authors and I kept both constantly with me.
