An enticing travel book that vividly describes the remote and hysterious Buddhist lands of Tibet, Bhutan, Sikkim and Burma - all places that the author has visited in the last twenty years. Buddhism was the focus of her exploration, and magnificent temples, tranquil shrines and golden pagodas can all be visualised in these pages.

Having been to many of the sites written about in this book, I was quite excited when I got it. Unfortunately it didn't quite marry up with my expectations. Clearly Dr Fleischer had the benefit of travel as a high end tourist to these far flung destinations. Although the book relates the journeys taken by the author, it somehow fails to portray the sites and scenery adequately and it certainly didn't leave me with a flavour of the people and cultures within.
