I've done LEJOG twice now and used this book as a guide on both occasions. The maps aren't that easy to follow in themselves, but if you make the effort to plot his recommended routes onto a road atlas or, better still, onto a GPS unit, then you'll end up with a hugely enjoyable and scenic route that avoids the traffic. You'll do a total of 1000 miles if you go via Arran, but it's well worth it if you've got the time.

I completed a ride from John O'groats to Land's end in July 2010, over 16 days as a cyclo tourist rather than as a challenge cyclist, via Arran. I used this book as the main guide for selecting routes, backed-up with a GPS and found it perfect, even though I was doing the routes in reverse of what was desribed in the book. On its own, I think it could be tricky for navigating in some sections and some routes are quite hilly (the route profile helps but somehow seemed inconsistent and some parts came across as much more difficult than others). Really enjoyed the quick notes on the major towns and points of interest along the way. I would recommend this to anyone looking to cycle end to end if you're not pressed for time and if you're looking to amble along nice and quiet backroads, rather than trying to get there as fast as possible.

I used this book back in 2000 to do end to end and found the book very useful. I did not have any other reference material and soley used this book - i found my way!!!
I did get lost a couple of times and had to ask so abit more detail either side of the route would have been useful but in general the book takes a scenic route (e.g. Isle of Arran) and is plesant and gives some information along the way.
But remember - Cornwall is the hardest part so dont get disheartened in the first 3 days of the ride!
