Product Description

Product Description

This is a collection of photographs of over 100 of the buildings in the care of the Landmark Trust. Each building is a gem, delicately restored and furnished to retain the aura of age and, in many cases, the eccentricity of its origins.

About the Author

Derry Brabbs' professional career as a photographer spans nearly thirty years. He has worked on the worldwide best-seller James Herriot's Yorkshire, on seven books centred around the legendary author, Alfred Wainwright, and most recently on England's Heritage. He has also worked extensively with the Council for the Protection of Rural England.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent independent overview of LandmarkTrust buildings, 20 Nov 2001

This review is from: Landmark: Cottages, Castles and Curiosities of Britain (Country Series) (Paperback)
A source of information and inspiration for all those interested in the historic buildings of the Landmark Trust - a must have for all Landmarkers. As a supplement to the Trust's own handbook it has proved a useful reference work but has equal merit as a book in it's own right. Derry Brabbs' photography and accompanying text are tantalizingly brief, but the book is none the worse for that, in fact this may well be one of its strongest points. The text is honest, not saccharine. Reading through the pages you get the feeling that Brabbs really does like these buildings and wants you to enjoy them too - which of course you can.

Not all Landmarks are included, which is a pity, but as new buildings are continually added to the stock, this would be an impossible task, a clear requirement for Volume II - put my name on the waiting list!

4.0 out of 5 stars useful and affordable, 1 July 2009

As the Landmark Trust (holiday company) have failed to get themselves a website, and as you usually only get the single image in their Handbook of holiday properties, this little coffee-table book acts as a useful addition to their main Handbook. Well photographed and produced, and there are so many copies about that it retails cheaply on the secondhand market.

Even if you have no interest in the company the book makes for interesting reading, and the photos carry it.
