Fascinating recollection of the life of an extraordinary American lady, who arrived in the eastern belgian Congo and in Rwanda at a time where life there was paradise for foreigners, settled as a plantation manager, remained throughout the tumultuous fifty years that followed, even during the worst periods when everybody else fled the country, and made it her home. Over 80, she has now turned her house into a very welcoming orphanage for the children of the war.

Rosamund Carr was a truely inspirational and remarkable woman. This was a facinating account of her life in Rwanda. After the genocide and against all advise she returned to her beloved country to set up an orphanage for the thousands of children orphaned and affected by the attrocities of the Rwandan genocide. Courageous, brave and truely dedicated to Rwanda her memory lives on through her work. Not just a biography but a very informative account of the history of Rwanda.

Very goog 28 April 2011
Format:Paperback
A must read if you are visiting Rwanda. But afterwards read: 'A Thousand Hills' by Stephen Kinzer. Really gives another dimension.
This book views Rwanda through a colonisers eyes, but she does change so hang on in there. Kinzer gives a much fuller picture.
The country is wonerful now. Do visit if you get a chance.
