This book is a reproduction from an antique book, first published around 1897 by Ernest Nister.

It features 6 circular revolving pictures, accompanied by 6 illustrated verses.

The revolving pictures work by you holding a small loop of cream ribbon attached to a tab at the bottom of the picture, then you pull it from left to right, and another picture spirals out on top of the previous one!

This book would be perfect to read to young children, but to give to older children, due to the delicate workings of the pictures.

The title of the book is taken from the following verse on the books first page:
Far away and yet among us,
lies a country all have seen,
cloudless skies and golden woodlands,
silver waters, meadows green;
And the voices of the city,
and the sounds of toil and strife,
never reach that lovely country,
never spoil its happy life;
And its roses bloom forever,
and its gold has no alloy,
for the land of sweet surprises,
is the children's world of joy.

As a child, this book was given to me as a gift, and it captured my interest because of the way all 6 verses rhymed so eloquently, and because of the detail and sharpness of colour of the revolving pictures.

If you're looking for a truly unique gift that will introduce a child to the concept of rhyming and give them an idea of the entertainment of a previous generation then I suggest you buy this book.

A perfect Grandparent to Grandchild gift,

utterly fabulous!
