Campbell's expertise in his chosen subject translates into a highly informative and useful read. His research is thorough and yet while the subject matter is historic, the book is a refreshing and unbiased read. I would heartily recommend this volume to anyone wishing to gain an interesting insight into how the land lay both politically and otherwise during a turbulent period of Irish history. Such issues as were abundant in the West of Ireland in particular, deserve highlighting. As an Irish reader, am most appreciative of this work and thank you, Dr Campbell, for compiling such a welcome addition to our household library!
