5.0 out of 5 stars A miss understood film 26 May 2012
By Gothcat
I have just watched 'Land of the Lost' and i was curious to find out what everyone else thought about it. As i was expecting to see a family, comedy film i was pleasantly surprised that it was not just your ordinary clichéd family movie but something aimed for a slightly older audience. This maybe why it was so poorly received. Looking at trailers and TV spots, this movie did really look like just another pointless summer blockbuster, which may have appealed to all you people looking for something family friendly. But for me i was so thrilled to be watching something that is just plain FUN! That's all it is! just fun, fun, fun! You people that have posted nothing but negative comments about this title don't know a great movie if it slapped you in the face. so relax a little, sit back again and realise that your watching another fantastic movie from will ferrell, and lets face it: when has will ferrell released a movie for families? (excluding ELF) Just stop your complaining and enjoy a non-stop, exciting, unpredictable movie that has everything you could ask for. and even more----what do you really expect from a movie based on a TV show created by someone who practically lived off acid? Three words to sum up this movie: trippy, adventurous and fun!

Lemony Snicket's director Brad Silberling does a great job with this daft comedy.
As someone with no memory of the TV series it's inspired by I went in with a clean slate and loved it for it's own merits. Will Ferrell is terrific as the brilliant scientist who's constantly hamstrung by his own massive ego and endlessly incorrect assumptions. Anna Friel is great and ballsy as his English admirer and fellow scientist, and Danny McBridge is typically funny and sleazy as a down on his luck tour guide who gets sucked through their time portal experiment with them into another dimension.
About the only other character of note is a half-human primate called Chaka - played brilliantly by actor Jorma Taccone as a pervy, cowardly and distinctive sidekick to the gang.
As Ferrell and crew stagger from disaster to disaster with everything from meeting hostile local lifeorms to escaping a rampaging T-Rex, the film never loses it's zany silliness, and as long as that kind of ridiculous humour's your thing you'll have a great time.
Daft, irreverent and sly, it's terrific fun.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Genuine Larf 20 Aug 2012
I should've hated this film. I liked Will Ferrell in Elf but otherwise I have not really liked anything else he has done. Never thought Anna Friel could cut it and Brad Silberling (the director)always seems to just miss it - Lemony Snicket should have worked but crashed the series before it could start, Casper was okay and City of Angels was one chick flick even the wife says hurts to watch.

It's interesting to note that Silberling was actually working on the first Harry Potter film when the Potter empire erupted and Warners pushed him aside for Chris Columbus.

But Land of the Lost works. Yes the dinosaur effects when interacting with the cast later on make you wonder how it passed 'Quality Control' but you need to gloss over that and open up a bit to just appreciate a film that isn't actually all that bad despite how badly it did at the box office.

There are quite a few laugh out loud moments and my two boys loved it and, yes, so did I.

Ferrell is Ferrell at his best. Anna Friel is great. And apart from a few odd moments when the film drags (Silberling seems to struggle with drama moments), it is a harmless giggle.

Shop around and you can get the Blu Ray for 6 or less. Picture and sound quality are really good and it kept us entertained one afternoon and will continue to do so.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of my favs with Blu Ray quality 24 July 2013

In my opinion this is a comedy classic - I know it is not to everyones taste but I just love the humour on this one. I almost place it in the Nat Lampoons Christmas Vacation category as a film you can always dip in to and find so many funny lines and no matter where you find yourself in the film there is always a part where you can still enjoy the punchline even after viewing it many times.

Picture and sound quality are very good and there is a very good selection of extras. Highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Daft, harmless, silly fun 9 Dec 2012
Looking at the figures for Land of the Lost, it tells us that the film was a box office flop, recouping less than half its cost to make.

I think that's a little unfair. Granted it's never going to win any Oscars, but if you're in the mood for something silly then you could certainly do worse.

It tells the story of Will Ferrell, playing basically Will Ferrell (his acting isn't much different to most of what he does) as a scientist who - and it doesn't really matter how - slips into another time/dimension/world - whatever - with hotpant-wearing Anna Friel and some redneck guy. There, they come up against various monsters like ape men, dinosaurs, lizard men and a T-rex with a grudge.

Yes, it's completely daft and stupid. But it's also quite amusing. Just sit back, put your brain on hold and enjoy.

Did I mention Anna Friel wears hotpants a lot?
