Having read Walters' previous crime novel, "Over Tumbled Graves", I rushed out and bought "Land of the Blind" as soon as it came out, looking forward to another gripping read. What a disappointment! For me, the narrative structure doesn't work at all.A man walks into police headquarters wanting to confess to a murder. Inexplicably, he doesn't want to say who was murdered or where the body might be found. Instead, he demands pen and paper and sits down to write his life story, beginning in early childhood. The story cuts irritatingly between his written narrative and the attempts of Detective Caroline Mabry to find out what happened, but unfortunately she seems to play only a minor role. The main focus is on the mystery man, his childhood friend Eli(who is really too grotesque to be believable) and the ex school bully Pete. I couldn't really get involved with any of them and by the end of the story I was so bored that I couldn't care less "whodunnit". More about Caroline herself next time please -all the folksy childhood angst just didn't come off, and Stephen King has done it so much better.
