The BEST cookbook EVER!!! 3 Aug. 2010
By Jason - Published on
Format: Hardcover
Wow! I'm honored to be the first to write a review of this WONDERFUL book. I was sure there would be hundreds already!!

I'm Jason's wife. If you're like me, you're always looking for easy, yet mouth-watering additions to your recipe repertoire. You won't be disappointed with this cook book. You'll love it!

This book is for anyone and everyone who loves good food. From hostesses, to caterers, to just us every day moms :) (who, quite frankly, are even more hard-pressed to come up with great food - and variety that the whole family will enjoy - every day!)

I've used plenty of cookbooks, but since purchasing Wai Lana's Favorite Soups, this one is definitely the one that I turn to the most.

Every single recipe I've made has been not only delicious and easy - incredibly so - they're extremely versatile as well. So that I can just adjust the quantities and make a curry or a stir fry instead of a soup.

It has so many wonderful ideas and tasty tips it will entice even the most picky of eaters!!

So do yourself and your family a favor and GET THIS BOOK!!

The best book on soup recipes 4 Dec. 2011
By Xiaochao Zheng - Published on
Format: Hardcover Verified Purchase
I am a big fan of Wai Lana's yoga DVDs. I started exploring her product line a couple of years ago. Frankly, when I bought this book the first time, it was a wrong timing - it was early fall, I was just starting a busy semester and had no time to cook, and I was not used to collecting all the special spices called by the recipe. After leaving the book on the shelf for a while, I sold it.

Then, about a year later, I read her blog and tried the "simple dhal" recipe on her website. I was also much more into cooking for my family (of four) from fresh ingredients rather than packaged foods. The dhal was a big hit, and was so simple to make. Also, as winter approaches I wanted soup all the time. So I bought a used copy of Wai Lana's Soup. Now I have explored a couple of recipes and each time it was a great success.

The book is completely vegetarian, but it is very easy to mix in meat. The book starts from traditional recipes such as French Onion and Clam Chowder (yes, vegetarian Clam Chowder), divided into Classics, Hearty Vegetables, Blended, and Beans & Grains. Then, are chapters on Asian, Fun, Gourmet, Healing, Stews, Chilled, and Dessert soups. The Fun recipes are targeted for children and I am eager to try them for my 4- and 2-year old boys, for example, mac&cheese soup and "I love peanut butter soup". The Healing recipes call for the use of ingredients such as ginger or wasabi, and quote the health benefits in details. Some recipes suggest the use of ground cashews in place of cheese, which are suitable for people sensitive to diary and contains much less saturated fat and healthier than the traditional cheese version.

In summary, this will be the only recipe book that I follow for the cold weather. Highly recommend.
