5.0 out of 5 stars I love this book 17 Sep 2012
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Hello

I love this book, the story, the people, the fact that you come across some of the people in the later 'Adept' books. That's one of only a few facts in there though. This is a work of fiction and you need to read it as that. Written in this genre because that's where Kathryn Kurts writes.
I like the way you're led into the dark of the Second World War, the danger, the noise, you are involved straight away. Then you become aware of the differences in these people, they have other powers available to them. As you read more you become as entwined as the story does, moving through the ages, the characters finding themselves bound together forever throughout their history. I always find this book very moving, the realisation of the certainty of death and the choices you can't take. The finale to the book is the part that ALWAYS makes me cry, I just daren't read it on the bus. I find the progression of the book very logical and the conclusion is inevitable but perhaps not exactly as you have imagined it will be.
Other people have written about Hitler's obsession with the occult, other people have written about the help given by the people of various beliefs and traditions during the war. The king asked people to pray, not only Christians prayed because not only Christians were at war, but everyone prayed to whoever they could, who says this didn't work?

5.0 out of 5 stars FANTASTIC 2 Sep 2012
Format:Mass Market Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is a book that was actually banned in the UK because of reference to the Royal Family. There is a great deal of truth in this well written book and what is not widely known is that the Royals as well as being Christians also follow the Wiccan tradition. This is fact folks and not fiction! The book engages the reader and unlike the previous review you DO feel sympathy for the people involved. I have read this book many times and it always makes me cry. I was given the book many years ago when it was still banned here. Prince Michael of Kent did die in a plane crash and this book makes reference to that. The Knights of the Garter is a tradition that goes back to Sir Walter Raleigh and again is in true Wiccan tradition. There was a ritual held by all covens at the invasion of England and the Spanish did turn back owing to increment weather. This is fact folks and not fiction!

Bad weather also deterred Hitler and he was also defeated by Wiccan intervention, and was heavily involved in the Occult and this has been proved after his death. For anyone to dispute this really ought to read up on the facts.

This is a great book, easy to read and full of facts. I loved it.

I am not Wiccan, but I have many friends who are. I am a Catholic, which causes criticism at times but I can live with that.

1.0 out of 5 stars Utter rubbish, even The Sun is a better read 25 July 2009
Format:Mass Market Paperback
If ever you needed proof that you can judge a book by its cover, this is it. Certainly if I'd seen the cover before buying it second-hand I'd not have wasted my money on this rubbish - the cover art is a map of Europe superimposed on a swastika, surrounded by candles, and impaled with a dagger. And it's all about how Hitler's invasion of the UK was thwarted by witches. Oh dear. So, the author starts with a stupid idea for a plot, and then it gets worse. Relationships between characters are not clear, the most ridiculous conspiracies are only found out when convenient, and the reader does not feel the slightest bit of sympathy for the characters no matter how hard they wail.
