This is the fourth book in Kenneth Maynard's Lamb series. The action is great and it keeps the book moving right along. It's an easy, interesting read without a lot of jargon or technical stuff.

For some odd reason, this book is almost impossible to find. But if you can find it, get it and read it--you won't be disappointed. Unfortunately, Maynard passed away right after he finished it and many loose ends remain. Worst of all is the very end of the book, when a battle is near its end. We never find out what happens to our hero and his ship--an eternal cliffhanger.

Lamb's Mixed Fortunes 30 May 2013

Agree with the other two reviewers; but will note, however, that the battle is concluded. When Captain Slade orders Lamb to strike, that's it - They're done! "Adroit" is a wreck, the French have won the day. Lamb and the survivors will go into captivity and perhaps be exchanged at some point - Common practice at the time. There is an additional perspective: the author knew he was dying as he completed this book. And, of course, his character would die with him. In my humble view, Slade's order was Maynard's own acceptance of the inevitable. Too bad - Excellent work; well written, and always engaging. I highly recommend.

Interesting book. Old and hard to find but worth the search. One of a series and of my favorite genres, old sailing stories.
