Everyone knows that getting enough Omega 3s is really important for our health, but getting the right amount of EPA and DHA (the important elements in fish oil) is not so easy, especially if you are on a budget. I did a bit of research on the over the counter mid-range brands I was buying (around £7.00 for 60) and realised that they were a bit of a con. The recommended EPA/DHA levels daily for health benefits are around 600-700mg, but the well-regarded brands I was taking only contained just over 300mg combined EPA/DHA!
My mother had a heart attack a year ago and was told it was very important for her to take fish oils. The NHS being the NHS these days, after two months she couldn't get the free prescription for Omacor Omega 3 anymore, so was taking inferior quality fish oils believing they were the same - a dangerous assumption in her case! Lamberts 1100mg Pure Fish Oil appears to have the same Omega 3 profile as the Omacor capsules she was prescribed - however the latter are prohibitively expensive to buy. Lambert's range is high quality but can often be expensive, however the deal I got on Amazon was really good and after a month of taking this brand I'm already noticing some benefits in my joint movement.
I would urge everyone to do a bit of research on reputable websites before buying ANY supplements. It's such an easily exploited market and it's really important to get it right for your health and your pocket!
