The Tug and Play Knot Block has been developed by Lamaze International, an award-winning American Childbirth and Early Parenting Organisation, as part of its Infant Development System. The toys are specially designed to encourage development in various aspects, according to age, so that parents can select the most appropriate and enjoyable one. Lamaze identify four phases, and the Tug and Play Knot Block is part of their Stage Two range--Exploring and Experimenting--for babies aged three months and above.
The Tug and Play Knot Block consists of three tubes of brightly coloured materials, knotted and threaded together and encased in a clear, rigid, plastic cube, allowing the ends to protrude through differently shaped holes. Each of the six ends has been finished off with either teething rings or brightly coloured shapes of various textured materials, containing fun sounds--a jingle, a squeak and a crinkle. It is robust and the tubes can be pulled in all ways. All these features encourage hand-to-eye coordination, motor and auditory skills, all giving rise to lots of opportunities for interaction between parents and children. --Susan Naylor
