Most Helpful Customer Reviews

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful By Bruce Langridge on 6 Jan. 2010
Format: Audio CD
This was one of the earlier, if not earliest, recordings made by pianist Carolyn Hume and percussionist Paul May. Over the years they developed an amazing musical relationship of haunting, mesmerising music that sounded largely improvised.
Here, they lay down a great new sound but I think they are still finding their feet musically - trying too many new tricks or reflecting thteir influences too much. For instance there's too much electronic piano, for me, that is reminiscent of Herbie Hancock in Miles Davis's 1960's quintet which is OK but not as characteristic as Hume matures on later CDs.
Messiah sees the best of the duo whilst Meld and Shift has some gorgeous singing from Sonja Galsworthy. May's percussion grooves more than it does on later more avant-guarde works.
