Product Description

"So that's it for her?" Simone said, unable to contain the wave of bitterness. "She's one of the lost?"

Jolie was just a one-year-old baby, part of an experimental shapeshifter program in Simone's world, when she turned into a jengu (one of the miengu water spirits) and stuck in that form. Faced with raising a creature they knew little about, the scientists had no choice but to hand Jolie over to others of her kind, the mysterious people of the lake.

Sixteen years later, Simone is busy introducing the next generation of shapeshifters to their new home. Hal and his friends are settling in at school when it occurs to Simone that, with the help of Abigail's little glass faerie ball and its ability to unlock deep-seated memories and abilities, she might be able to bring Jolie back into the human world. It's said that the miengu can heal the sick, and Jolie would be an invaluable asset to have around - that is, if her enchanting beauty and mischievous ways don't escalate into disaster.

This is a tale of paranoia, betrayal, and impending doom. Like sirens luring ships onto rocks, Jolie seems sweet-natured at first... but Hal and his friends slowly discover that there's more to her than meets the eye. Can they figure her out before the proverbial ship smashes itself to bits?

Fourth book of the Island of Fog trilogy. 29 Sep 2011
By Brian W Beck - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Hmmm. This is the fourth book under the Island of Fog series. The first three formed a trilogy which is a thumping read. The series is aimed at older kids, and, if you're a kid at heart, grownups. The Lake of Spirits continues on from the trilogy with a new adventure and it's important to be aware that this is set by locale and timeframe immediately after the previous book. The characters are further developed and relationships between them nurtured. While the density of action is not on par with the last book, the less frenetic pace allows moments of intimacy to blossom. The story creeps up on you like a mist and you realize you are deep in a novel that has traded pure adventure for a more nuanced page turning mystery. While reading the trilogy is not absolutely necessary, and the novel is a fine read on its own, you would be well rewarded by starting with book one of the series.

New Book In A Great Series 1 Sep 2011
By shannon - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
I was thouroghly excited when I found this book, I am glad that Mr. Robinson finished another book. This is probably one of my favorite series, I have read the other three books at least 3x each. But I was disappointed with the ending, I wish that it was soooo much longer. I hope the next book is released soon!
An Excellent Series Continues! 14 Dec 2011

Keith Robinson has another winner on his hands with "Lake of Spirits," the latest addition to his marvelous "Island of Fog" series. Nicely paced, it's a fun easy read that follows Hal and his fellow shapeshifters as they continue to adjust to their new lives on the other end of a trans-dimensional/geographical "hole." A hole that brought them from the relative safety and comfort of their foggy island home to an exciting new world of strange creatures and dangerous adventures.

In "Lake," we meet the mysterious miengu, water "spirits" who dwell in a nearby lake, and Jolie, a shapeshifter who transformed into one of the merfolk and was lost to the human world at a very young age. Will she serve as the ideal bridge between the two peoples or will she turn out to be as cruelly sadistic as the creatures who raised her? All I'll say is that with Jolie, Robinson has crafted one of his best characters yet -- a nuanced and challenging individual who will keep Hal and company as well as readers guessing until the very end.
