I'm a great Lakes fan, walking and the area in general. I also live quite close and profess to knowing quite a lot about the lakes. For a book to just pick up read a few interesting facts and put down this book is great. Lots of info you probably never knew you didn't know. If you are a Lakes fan or have friends that visit, this would make an excellent stocking filler.

Too much information about the hills, walking, Wainwright et al, and not enough general trivia about the towns, villages and lakes.

I live in the Lake District and am used to seeing loads of books on the area, but this one stands out. It's packed with a wide range of information, a mixture of interesting stuff and fun facts - such as the bit on extraordinary questions that have been asked at Tourist Information Centres! It makes a great introduction to those who don't know the Lakes and, even if you think you do, you'll come across all sorts of new information. It's a handy size, with a nice quality feel. I've been giving it as a present quite a bit and it's definitely been appreciated.
