Set around the Norman conquest, we see our hero and heroine bought together by the atrocities of the time which was called the harrying of the North. The Lady Ashlynn having lost her kin and home to the harrying, finds herself at the mercy of Black Iain a Scottish warlord. Iain has a reputation and has no time for damsels in distress. He has loved and lost once before and would never fall into that trap again. He is hell bent on revenge against the new King William and his right hand man who has been sent to oversea the events in the North - Lord Fitzurse.
Ian takes Ashlynn to the Scottish king who commands that they marry, hence the start of a turbulent relationship full of sexual tension and intrigue.
I did feel the beginning of the book a little slow to get going, but once it did was a brilliant read. Hope you enjoy it, I did.

Once again Joanna has brought us a real page turner, this one kept me up untill 3am! The characters were so alive and the setting so well described, that I was right there in the story with them. As usual the historical detail was fascinating, as for the Laird, well all I can say, is that I certainly wouldn't mind being his captive wife!

I could not put my kindle down! This book kept me reading even at work! It was worth the moaning! I have since previewed another one of her books. I'm not surprised to discover that I like it as well.
