More About the Author

I am originally from New Zealand, but have been living in England for seven years now. I like to write in my spare time, and have often been inspired by science fiction and science fact; I believe that the best work is often highly imaginative, but still retains those human qualities with which we identify, so that is what I try and keep in my mind at all times. I am working on book number five, and aim to have this out by the end of the year. You can find me on Twitter and Facebook.

About the Author

Richard Shury was born in Wellington, New Zealand, and that was where he stayed for most of his life, until completing an English degree at Otago University, Dunedin. Sensing opportunity and craving travel, he moved to the UK in 2005. He currently lives in West London with an assortment of Kiwis, Aussies, and one South African, and enjoys the usual passtimes associated with that lifestyle, as well as sampling the eclectic London culture. In his spare time he writes, paints, and reads books about poets and atheism.

Format: Paperback
I found Laid Hold The Dragon to be an incredibly compelling story with great characters and a plot that was thoroughly absorbing. The story is set in the future and follows a group of people reacting to their police-state/gang-state world post-Apocalypse. Although set in the future it is not a far fetched fantasy tale and it is easy to imagine yourself in the characters various positions. Relevant to today's global society of both religious and political extremists, it is a both a "thinking book" and also just a great character driven read that I couldn't put down!

Format: Paperback
In Laid Hold The Dragon, Richard Shury has created a terrifying apocalyptic vision of the future. Part sci fi 'nuclear holocaust' novel, and part fantasy, Shury creates some very believable characters (especially 'Janice'), then throws them into incredible situations. I lent this book to my uncle, who loves fantasy books. He loved it, and he is passing it on to another friend. Overall, highly recommended.

Format: Paperback
In Laid hold the dragon Richard Shury spins an intriguing tale about the epic battle of good and evil. You are instantly drawn towards the characters in his book and one cannot help emphasizing with them. The tales of 5 strangers are deftly spun into a saga of the ultimate battle and sacrifice.

It if gripping, fast pace and at the same time it paints the characters' feelings in a masterful way.

It is simply a must read.
