In Lady of Valor, Tina St. John spins a dazzling tale of romantic adventure in magnificent medieval England, where battles of love and war are fought with equal passion. . . .

Left a widow by her cruel husband's death, Lady Emmalyn of Fallonmour is determined to control her own destiny, until her hard-won vows of independence are threatened by the mysterious warrior sent by the king to protect her castle. Emmalyn is now at the mercy of Sir Cabal, a feared knight known as Blackheart.

Skilled at war and hiding a tormented past, Cabal swears allegiance to no one but himself and his country. But once he meets Emmalyn, he finds his strength tested by this proud beauty who stirs his blood with desire, tempting him to defy his king and surrender his heart. . . .

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderfully written medieval romance 30 July 2002
Format:Mass Market Paperback
"Lady of Valor" was my first book by Tina St John but not the last one. The author's writing style is very good, entertaining and easily followed by the reader. The story is set in medieval England during the rule of King Richard the Lionheart. The writer gives us a good glimpse into the historical background and into the daily routine of castle life. The leading characters are Lady Emmalyn and Sir Cabal who have both suffered in life.Emmalyn is a young widow who after learning about her cruel husband's death in the Holy Land wants to stay lady of the castle and look after her home and people. Cabal is a homeless knight the king's right arm and feared by everyone because of his bloody reputation in battle. He is sent to look after the holding for the crown until Richard finds a new loyal lord for the keep and a new husband for Emmalyne. The plot is fast-moving and there are many exciting actions happening fast enough to keep the reader's attention.I like the way the author writes about manual duties done in the castle or about its people's celebrations and their loyalty to their lady. Emmalyne is a strong character who slowly learns to trust and love Cabal. She finds out about his black past and wants to help him to find happiness together. Cabal is a man hardened by war, he thinks he can't live without it but he falls in love with Emmalyne's beauty , courage and kindness to her people. Together they fight for the future of their love and the wellbeing of their people. Both characters are very well described and you must understand them and like them. They are so alive you can nearly touch them. I liked many of the secondary characters as well. They come alive as you read page after page and make you read the book in record time.Ms. St John's sense of humour is very entertaining.
LADY OF VALOR is a beautiful medieval romance that has everything what the genre requires and most of all it has SOUL.
Tina St John is a very talented and promising new author of historical romance. She knows the time period well and you can see that she spends enough time on research. I look forward to reading her other medieval romances and I highly recommend them to all historical romance lovers.
